I wake up to a small body curled up next to me. I smile knowing Madi must have come in this morning and fallen back asleep. I reach over and grab my phone off the bedside table and see it's 8:30. I decide to get up and make Madi breakfast before she gets up. I get up quietly and change into clothes.
I walk into the kitchen and see my mom left a note. "Clarke, I had to go into work early today to cover for someone, so go ahead and make some breakfast or go out. Just be safe, Love mom." I smile at the note and decide to make Madi pancakes since those were her favorites back when were in Ton DC. I grab the mix and start making them.
"Mommy," I hear Madi say. I turn around and see her standing in the hallway. I walk over to her and pick her up. "Did you sleep well?" I ask her as I put her in a chair. She nods her head and smiles. "Do you want pancakes for breakfast?" I ask as I flip the last 3. "PANCAKES!" She screams excitedly. I laugh and put one on a plate for her while I make my coffee.
After breakfast I get Madi dressed and do her hair. I decide to let her play while I try to enroll her in preschool. Madi has never been to preschool since Finn decided that it wasn't important, and she should wait until kindergarten. He also wouldn't let me work because he said I needed to do everything around the house and take care of Madi.
I look around and see Arkadia's elementary/preschool registration online. I decide to talk to my mom before I sign Madi up to make sure she is ready. I close the laptop and head to check on Madi. I walk in and see she is playing with her dolls.
.........
"Clarke I'm home," I hear my mom yell. Madi gets up and runs over to her grandma. "GRANDMA," she yells running over to her. "Hi Madi! Did you and mommy have fun today?" she asks. "Mhm we played dolls and made pancakes and went to the park," she says. Madi then runs back to her room to play with her dolls. "How are you holding up?" My mom asks pulling me into a hug. "I don't know. I just feel bad for putting her through this and I still worry-,"
My mom cuts me off. "You're an amazing mom to Madi. Finn didn't see how amazing you are and he's just a big asshole, don't let this scare you" she says. "I've wanted to enroll her in preschool but I'm not sure how she'll act," I say. "Clarke, I think she'll be fine, plus it's only half a day. While she's at preschool you can work and then be there to pick her up," she says pulling back from the hug.
After the long discussion with my mom, we both agree it would be great for her to go. So I sign her up online. In three weeks she will meet her teacher and then start going 3 days a week in the afternoon. I still hope I'm not making a bad decision.
..........
Telling Madi was pretty easy and she was actually excited about going to preschool. Although she keeps wanting to go now, we have to tell her she needs to wait a few weeks.
I am currently folding laundry in my room while Madi is playing in her room."Mommy," I hear Madi call from her room. " Yes, sweetie?" I ask her. " Where's daddy?" I immediately stop to think about how I should answer this. I can't just say he doesn't love her.
"Daddy wanted to spend time alone for a bit but he loves you, okay?" I hate lying to my daughter, but I don't have the heart to tell her he won't see her again. "Why?" She asks. "Well, Daddy doesn't love Mommy anymore so that's why we're with grandma," I tell her walking into her room. I see her sitting on her bed crying.
"I'm the reason daddy doesn't love you," I pull her into a hug. "You're not the reason okay? Sometimes mommies and daddies just don't love each other like they used to," I say kissing the top of her head. " Promise?" "I promise," I tell her.
After a while, she calms down and starts playing again while I continue doing laundry. "Clarke," I hear my mom call. "Yeah?" I yell back. "I'm going out with a friend from work I'll be back before 10," She says. "Okay," I yell back in response. I hear the front door close and then I start to think. My mom hasn't gone out since my dad died, which was weird, but I decided to let it go.
After giving Madi a bath, helping her brush her teeth, and getting her pj's on she finally falls asleep in her room. I walk out to the kitchen and sigh. I always thought I would be married or be engaged before having kids. But after Finn, I couldn't stay. I mean he cheated on me the entire time but I was scared to leave.
(Flashback to 5 years ago when Clarke and Finn had been dating for 6 months)
Lately, after I told Finn I wasn't ready for sex he started working later and acting differently. I had just gotten back from working out at the gym when I see the lights off in most of his house. When I walked in I couldn't believe my eyes. A girl with light brown hair and brown eyes was on the kitchen counter making out with Finn. Luckily they were still fully clothed, but still, it's just because I wouldn't have sex with him. "WHAT THE HELL FINN?" I say with tears in my eyes as the girl hopes off the counter and walks out. "Baby I'm sorry; it won't happen again if you have sex with me right now." he then pushed me up to the counter. " Finn stop. I'm not ready," I say crying. He gives me an evil smile. Well, I guess your punishment will be worse then," he says. "I will continue being with other girls until you give me the pleasure of your body," he says smiling.
(End of Flashback)
Thinking of that memory gives me the chills. He had been nice until our 6 month anniversary when he wanted sex. When I told him I was a virgin and not ready for that, he said it was okay. But deep down I knew he wasn't okay with it. The next day he came home telling me his boss gave him longer hours so he would be home later. That's when it all started.
After thinking for a while longer, I look at the clock to see it was already 10 o'clock. I have been standing here for about half an hour. I am surprised my mom wasn't back yet but I just decide to ask in the morning. I turn the lights off in the house and go to bed hoping Madi will sleep in.
