National Sports Day is a public holiday celebrated in various countries to honor the national sports teams and different sports traditions of those countries. On this day people from different age groups take part in sports like marathons, basketball, hockey, etc.

The National Sports Day in India is celebrated on 29 August, on the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, the hockey player who won gold medals in the Olympics for India in the years of 1928, 1932, and 1936. He scored over 400 goals in his career, from 1926 to 1948.

In Iran, October 17 is known as Physical Education & Sports day, and from the 17 to 23 the week is named Physical Education & Sports Week. Japan's Health and Sports Day is a national holiday commemorated in October as well. It was first held on the 10th of October on the second anniversary of the 1964 Summer Olympics held in Japan . Since 2000 it has been held on the second Monday of October.

National Sports Day in Qatar, is held every year on the second Tuesday in February, with the aim of promoting a healthy lifestyle nationwide. Qatar is one of the few countries to dedicate a day for sports, and it's residents celebrate this exceptional day enthusiastically embracing special physical activities. The first National Sports Day was held in 2012 and was designated for sporting endeavors by the citizens of Qatar.
