I decided to try something new for this blog! I'll be dissecting the song 'Only the Brave' by Louis Tomlinson.

WARNING: THIS IS MY PERSPECTIVE AND AM NOT ASSUMING LOUIS'S SEXUALITY.

Pour mercy, mercy on me, set fire to history

I'm breakin' my own rules, I'm cryin' like a fool

Tall stories on the page, short glories on the fade

I been close enough to touch, but I never cared for love.

In my opinion, this verse is about a person, who has finally accepted their sexuality and at the same time, it feels so surreal and he doesn't care about what happened to gays, earlier because he is himself.

Maybe, this person was already attracted to another, but believed what he is feeling is not right or he already fell in  but didn't know?

It's a church of burnt romances

And I'm too far gone to pray.

It's a solo song

And it's only for the brave

Gay people were burnt for being themselves in churches and thus the line, "it's a church of burnt romances".

He has finally accepted to be a part of the LGBTQ+ community and believes that he can't be religious and be gay at the same time, but he is brave because he's accepted himself the way he is and not hiding or denying

If the truth tell,

Darling you fell

Like there ain't enough dying stars in your sky

It's a tall tale And it's only hello, hello no goodbye.

So, maybe, he fell for another and didn't realise it, and that clears up the confusion in the first verse.

I think what the third line is trying to convey when there is so much hate in the world, why do you hate on a community who believes that 'love is love' and 'I am, who I am.' It is only human right to have the freedom to love.

People have been closeted and disowned for a long time.

Maybe, the last sentence refers to the olden days, where people couldn't be gay ( even a few places now), but they couldn't stay away from each other so, they used to sneak out at night to meet each other. It's hard to say goodbye when you are in love even if the result means death.

Pour mercy, mercy on me

I'll fall upon my knees

And they'll say 'I told you so, Come on, when you know, you know'

All the lonely shadow dances From the cradle to the grave

Forgive me for being gay. I am who I am. I know the society can't accept me, but I love him, and I don't want to be lonely because he's the only one I love, and that’s not going to change, forgive me.
