When I wake up in the morning, Mason is gone. Almost as if he were never here.
I get up and stretch my body before walking into the bathroom to freshen up. After I'm done in the bathroom I walk downstairs to grab something to eat.
"Hey" Noah says looking up from his bowl of cereal.
"Hey" I give him a little smile as I walk over to the cabinet to get a bowl.
"Did you have a good time last night?" he asks making conversation.
"Yeah, there were a lot of people there though. You guys go to those sort of things a lot?" I remember Mason saying something like that yesterday.
"Not me but Amy and John get dragged to one every few months. Except the ones they go to are filled with older people and not teenage kids" he chuckles.
I nod my head and add the almond milk to my bowl of cereal. I wonder what's the purpose of those kind of events anyway. But I guess it's something adults enjoy. I know I would much rather be in my bed than in a room full of stuffy old people.
"So you came home early last night? I got home around two and you were already in bed, did something happen?" Noahs voice pulls me out of my thoughts.
Mason must have left before Noah got here, that was probably for the best. I don't know how he would've reacted if he saw Mason in my bed. The thought makes my stomach churn.
"No, nothing happened" I mumble grabbing a spoon. "I was just tired of being around all those people and my feet were hurting so Mason brought me home"
His body stiffens slightly at the mention of Masons name but it quickly passes and he just nods his head and continues eating his cereal.
After I finish my cereal I walk back to my room and pick up the book I've been reading. It's become one of my favorites and once I start reading it's hard for me to put it down.
But before I can finish the first page, my phone vibrates on my side table. Normally when I read I put my phone on silent but I was so eager to read this book that I forgot.
I sigh and lean over to grab the device.
M: Be ready in thirty minutes.
V: What? Why?
He doesn't respond leaving me clueless. I don't know why he always assumes that I will automatically be available whenever he wants me to be.
Granted I'm never really doing anything...but still.
I groan closing my book, upset that I won't get to read it right now, and go to take a quick shower.
After a fifteen minute shower, I get dressed in a pair of jeans and a green hoodie. I slip on some sneakers just in time to hear the doorbell ring. Grabbing my phone I go to find Noah to tell him I'm leaving, but he's nowhere to be found.
I check the garage to see that his car is gone.
Does everyone just come and go as they please? I guess he's not used to telling anyone when he leaves since he used to be the only child and Amy and John do work a lot.
I shut the garage door and then walk over to the front door and open it. Mason is standing there with his hands in his pockets looking slightly irritated.
Well this should be fun.
I walk out and lock the door behind me.
"Is something wrong?" I ask trying to read his face.
He stares at me for a while before shaking his head. He's acting strange so I know something is up but maybe he'll tell me later so I don't push it. I just follow him to the car and get in without a word.
