"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

I'm woken up to loud screaming in my ears.

Why are people screaming and what are they screaming about?

I groan loudly and open my eyes to find Amy, John, and Noah smiling at me. My alarm hasn't even went off yet so I shouldn't even be awake right now.

"What's going on?" I ask with a groggy voice. "Why are you guys screaming?"

"It's your birthday! We made a special breakfast for you" Amy smiles.

How she smiles so brightly this early in the morning, I will never know.

"You really didn't have to do that" I mumble sitting up slowly. "I don't celebrate my birthday it's just another day, nothing special" my hands go to my eyes to rub the sleep out of them.

"Well we celebrate birthdays, so come downstairs and have some breakfast" she smiles and then they leave the room.

I let out a deep breath as I peel the blankets off my body to go freshen up in the bathroom.

My birthday is the most dreadful day of the year especially since it's on Valentine's day. Nothing better than being born out of hate on the day that celebrates love. My life is one big ball of irony.

I make it downstairs and there are blueberry waffles, bacon, and eggs on the table. I take a seat in the chair that has happy birthday balloons attached to it.

When everyone is done with their food I finally speak up. It took me all breakfast to figure out how to tell them I am serious about not wanting to celebrate my birthday.

"Thank you so much for the breakfast it was really good" I say first. They all nod their heads with smiles. "But I don't celebrate my birthday for a reason and I really just want you guys to respect that"

I get up and push the chair under the table. "It's Valentines Day you guys should go out on a date or do something special and Noah I'm sure Rachel would love it if you took her out. Don't waste the day on my account"

I force a small smile on my face and walk out of the room to get ready for school.

I walk into the school building and head straight to my locker.

"Happy birthday!" Anna and Henry say immediately when they see me.

I sigh and open my locker. "How do you even know that my birthday is today, I didn't tell anyone"

"I know when everyones birthday is, I have it in my calendar" she smiles. "So what are we doing for your birthday?"

"We aren't doing anything today because there isn't anything to celebrate" I turn to Anna and Henry. "I'm gonna tell you guys the same thing I told Noah, Amy, and John this morning. It's Valentines Day, celebrate that. Anna go out with Troy. Henry buy your mom some chocolates. Whatever you do, leave me out of it"

I slam my locker shut, which makes Anna jump back, and walk away.

During lunch I go to the library because I don't want to be bothered by anyone. Especially not today.

I don't know why people think that birthdays are something that everyone wants to celebrate. My birthday is not a special day, it's the very opposite of that. My birthday is just a miserable twenty four hours.

I asked Mr. Carvello, my calculus teacher, if I could spend his class in the library. I've already finished the project we are working on and I don't feel like being bothered with Mason right now.
