"I'm sorry for the way I was acting yesterday" I say to Amy when I see her in the kitchen.
It's Thursday morning and I woke up with the mission to apologize to everyone, especially Mason, for blowing them off yesterday without much of an explanation.
"Oh no sweetie you don't have to apologize" she offers me a small smile. "We shouldn't have been so overbearing and acted more considerate"
I grab a few snacks and put them in my school bag. "It's okay" I shrug. "I appreciate you guys wanting to celebrate, but it's just not for me"
"I should've realized sooner why you prefer not to celebrate your birthday. When we adopted you they gave us your files and I hope you don't mind but I read them over. Your birthday is the day you were admitted into the orphanage, I'm so sorry" Amy frowns. Frowns never look normal on her face because she smiles so much.
I grab a banana and peel it, taking a bite. "It's fine" I shrug not really wanting to have the conversation. I had it yesterday, that was enough. "Noah's waiting for me in the car, I should go"
She nods her head and brings me into a hug. I peel the last of the banana and throw away the peel, then walk out to the garage to get in Noah's car.
"Hey guys" I say greeting Anna and Henry at our lockers.
"Hey" Anna smiles.
"So how are we spending this lovely half day the school granted us with today" Henry smiles closing his locker.
Right, we have a half day today because of parent teacher conferences. Amy is coming for mine and I think John is coming for Noahs but I'm not positive. We only have our first three classes today and then that's it.
"After the conferences I'm not doing anything" I shrug.
"Same here" Henry smiles.
Anna frowns. "My mom is making me go to this stupid study group thing for the SATs" she sighs. "But after that I'm free. What if we all go out later tonight?"
Henry and I nod our heads and then we all head off to our classes.
Parent teacher conferences quickly roll around and I find myself walking Amy to my first class. She has my schedule and knows where all the classrooms are since Noah has attended this school for four years, so she lets me go to the library while she chats with my teachers.
As I'm making my way to the library, I decide to take a detour and go to the basement to grab a water bottle from the vending machine. I usually bring one to school but I forgot it this morning.
I get the water and take a sip of it then put it in my bag. While I'm zipping up my bag, the basement door catches my eye. It's normally never propped open like that. I swing my bag over my shoulder and walk over to the door to take a look.
I spot Mason leaning against the wall outside smoking. He has the door propped open with a big grey cement block.
"Mason?"
He turns to look at me as he lets out a puff of smoke. I walk out further stuffing my hands in the pocket of my hoodie.
"Go back inside. It's cold and you don't need to be inhaling this, I'll be right behind you"
I nod my head and walk back inside to stand in the hallway. A few seconds go by before I see him take the cement block away from the door and closes it behind him. He puts in a stick of gum and walks over to me.
"I'm sorry about yesterday, are you still upset?" I ask looking up into his grey eyes.
"No" he leans down giving me a quick kiss.
