Chapter 39

Thursday

Alex POV
I'm sitting on the couch in Laf and Hercs dorm. Everyone else in pacing and arguing with each other at the top of their lungs.

"Did he pick up?" "No! Of course he didn't!" "This is just perfect! Find the one and lose the other!" "You were supposed to keep him inside!" "He's a lot stronger then he looks!" "I swear I'm gonna murder him when he gets back!"

"EVERYBODY SHUT UP!" I yell getting their attention, they all stop in silence and look at me. I pull out my phone and text John.

[tomcat entered the chat]

tomcat: John, where are you?

[gayturtle entered the chat]

gayturtle: Out.

tomcat: Get back here now, I need you and the group is going crazy trying to find you.

gayturtle: No, you don't need me. I'm not who you need right now. Tell the group to give up looking for me I'll come back on my own.

[gayturtle left the chat]

tomcat: John

tomcat: John!

[tomcat left the chat]

He stopped responding so I put my phone away, "Well?" Peggy asks nervously, "He said to stop looking for him, he'll come back on his own." I reply.

"Yeah, that's not good enough." she says grabbing my phone, she starts going through my messages and eventually gets the location of his phone. "He's completely off the grid, I don't know where this is." she says handing my phone back to me.

I look at it, "I do." I say standing up, "No, we'll go. You're the reason he left." Eliza says pushing me back onto the couch. "I'll stay with him." Herc says as the girls and Lafayette grab their coats, "Text me the directions." Angie says as they leave.

Angelica POV
We get into the car and start driving, Alexander sends the directions to where we need to go, "Where are we going?" Eliza asks looking over my shoulder at my phone, "A forest." I reply confused, "Forest Park." Peggy says looking at the directions.

We get there in a few minutes and start walking on the path for about five minutes. We turn left off the parth and head into a more secluded area. We stop in front of the lake, John is sitting up against a tree just staring at the water.

"John?" I say, he looks at me silently and then back at the water. "John, we need to get back. Alex is worried." Eliza says, "No he's not." John replies. "Of course he is! He loves you!" Peggy says, "I know that, he's just not worried about me. I just texted him." John says looking at us like we're stupid.

I walk up to him, "He needs you." I say quietly, "Wrong again." he replies in a cold, distant tone. "He needs a friend. Someone who can comfort him in a normal way. He doesn't need me for something like this."

I can hear the hurt in his voice but he keeps it steady somehow. "Go back. I'll go home when I want to." Eliza walks forward and pulls John up, "You're coming with us. Now." she says in a stern voice. He pulls his arm back, "Leave me alone."

He sits back down, "John you have no clue how much this hurts Alexander!" she screams, "You're right, I don't! But I know that me being there will hurt him more!" he yells back, "I love him more then anything and I know that whatever I try to do will hurt him so I'm not going to try anything!"

Eliza takes a step back in shock, tears stream down John's cheeks but he wipes them away, "Leave me alone." he repeats. We walk backwards and then away from him, I take a last glance at him, he has his face in his hand crying.

We walk back to the car, "Is he right?" Peggy asks, "Is he the last person Alexander needs right now?" I look at her for a second and then start the car, we drive back to the dorms in silence.

We walk up to Herc and Lafs dorm, "Did you find him?" Hercules asks quietly glancing back at Alexander on the couch, he's a mess. "He's not coming back. Not yet anyways." I reply quietly, Eliza sits next to Alexander, "You should go home." she says helping him up. "Take tomorrow off, you need it." He puts Jeffersons hoodie back on and Peggy, Alex and I walk down to the car.

We get in and drive to his apartment building and up to his apartment. When we enter he walks straight to his room and changes out of Jeffersons clothes. He stands on the balcony and drops the jeans and hoodie off.

He walks back inside and sits on the couch. "Do you want us to stay?" I ask and he shakes his head, "I want to be alone." he replies, "Alexander, you really shouldn't be alone right now." Peggy says and he looks up at us, "I want John and only John, he's not here so I want to be alone."

We look at each other nervously and Alex drops his head back down. "Okay then." I say and we leave.

John POV
It's 21:30 and I decide I need to get back home before I freeze to death. I contemplated getting a motel room for the night but decided against it, I'll just sleep in the guest room.

I open the door to the apartment and see Alex sitting at the counter with his head resting on his arms. He doesn't look up at me so I shut the door and walk to the bathroom to take a shower because I'm freezing.

I get out and get dressed walking back into the living room, Alex hasn't moved, he's not asleep because he's playing with a fork and his eyes are open. I switch the kettle on, "You want tea?" I ask, "Sure." he replies. I make us both a cup and place his in front of him.

I take mine to the couch and pull out my phone. He walks up to me and sits down next to me. "John... Are you mad at me?" he asks and I look at him surprised, "Of course I'm not mad at you. I'm just not the person you need." I say looking back at my phone.

He takes my hand and looks me straight in the eyes, "You're always going to be the person I need. No matter what situation I'm in." he squeezes my hand, I sigh pulling my hand back, "You're wrong this time, Alexander." I say getting up, "Good night."

I walk to the guest room and hear him walk back to our room. "I'm sorry." I whisper as I turn off the lights and lie down. "I love you my angel."
