Maya wished more than anything that she could just run away right there. She was starting to begin to believe that this was all just a little too much for her to handle.

"I wanted to talk to you about a few things. A couple of personal wishes that I have for you. I wouldn't blame you if you don't want to do them, but it has to do more with your step siblings then it does me." He told her. Maya just nodded her head. She didn't have anything to say until she knew what it was that he wanted. "Is it okay if I explain what they are?" He asked her.

"Sure." Maya said. Kermit smiled at her.

"After I remarried Carrie, I took a life insurance out on me to make sure that she and the kids we had would be taken care of if anything were to happen to me. But I also thought of you. I know I wasn't the best dad to you when I was around, and then leaving you I knew that your life would become more difficult. So I wanted to leave you something as well. But when I found out I had cancer and I spoke to my lawyer, you're my first born and the only one that's over eighteen. It's an option for me to put the life insurance in your name, then you would be able to have access to the money and make sure that each of the other kids would get their share when they reached eighteen." Kermit explained.

"But I also wanted to talk to you a little more about possibly being in their lives after I'm gone. Carrie and I were talking, and we want you to be apart of their lives. We've told them about you for years. I never hid to you from them. I wanted them to know that you were out there. It was hard being a father to Savannah, because she reminded me so much of you when I first started getting involved with Carrie. I didn't tell her about you until she was ten. That's when we adopted Jeremy. And the twins were only four. Sarah was so excited about having another older sister, she's asked about you every day for years. Wanted to know more about you, what you were like."

"Why are you telling me this?" Maya asked him.

"Because I want you to know the kind of impact you've already had on our kids lives without even having a relationship with them. I'm worried about them, Maya. But I know how much you've overcome in your life. I know how successful you've been, with college and having a dad like Shawn. That Matthews kid you've been friends with for years. You've done so well for yourself, Maya. And they are your siblings. You should feel free to have a relationship with them. And maybe now that I'll be out of the way soon, it will be easier for you."

"You think that's why I've never had a relationship with them? You think I've stayed away from them because it's too hard for me because of you?" Maya asked him. "I didn't even know they existed until fairly recently. And it wasn't their fault that you decided to leave." Maya told him.

"And this is why we know you'll be a great influence in their lives. We want you to take the life insurance and make sure the kids get it when it's time. But we also want to make sure that they will be able to lean on you. They'll need support for when after I go. Savannah will be hard to build a relationship with. Jermey has been asking about his real parents, he's a very cautious kid, he doesn't like to get his heart involved, but I think the two of you have a lot in common. Sarah will be easy, Cody as well. They'll just need to get to know you a little better."

"Okay, so you want me to build a relationship with these kids, but then you want me to tell them that I'm taking their money and not giving it to them until after they reach a certain age. Someone who hasn't been in their lives until just now." Maya stated. No wonder Savannah was so short with her in that remark about the life insurance. She really thought that was the whole reason Maya had come back. "Do they know the truth about what happened? Do they know how you walked out on me and mom?"
