Josh stared at his phone as he sat down slowly on his bed. His jacket and overnight bag laid down forgotten on the floor.
'Hey Josh. I know this is sudden but I was wondering if we could meet up at our favorite coffee shop tomorrow morning. There are some things I need to explain to you. I wouldn't blame you if you didnt show up, but just incase I'll be there around 8. ~ Adrianna'
Josh took a deep breath, this sounded like the Adrianna he had started dating in the beginning. He wondered what all she had wanted, besides the obvious. Josh ran a hand through his hair trying to think of what to do. Unfortunately, all thoughts of Maya had gone from his head.
The next morning, Josh blinked his eyes open before looking at the clock. It was seven thirty in the morning. Josh rose up still in his clothes from last night. He had not slept at all as he was up all night thinking about what he should do with Adrianna. He took a deep breath and made his decision.
At eight fifteen Josh found himself right outside the coffee shop staring into the window where Adrianna's back was turned. She was sipping on her usual she got every time they went there. Josh opened the door and walked over to where she was sitting and sat down in the booth across from her.
Adrianna looked up and met his eyes with shocked ones.
"I didnt think you would show." She told him as she put her cup down on the table and leaned back in her seat to take a closer look at him.
"I didnt think I was going to until this morning." Josh shrugged his shoulders. Adrianna smiled a little.
"Does Maya know that you're here?" She asked him.
Maya. And then suddenly it clicked. Josh closed his eyes and sighed as he remembered their little date they were supposed to have the night before. He had completly stood her up. He opened his eyes again and this time he was in a much worser mood than before.
"Look Adrianna, me being here is going to cause me enough problems with Maya. So whatever you want to tell me just spit it out so I can get back." He snapped at her as he shook his head at the waiter that asked if he wanted his order to be taken. Adrianna bit her lip and nodded her head.
"I wanted to apologize." She told him. "I wanted to explain what all happened." Josh shook his head.
"Why now?" He asked her. Adrianna sighed.
"Because I wanted to give you some time. It also took me sometime to get to where I understood, to where I finally let my concious catch up with me." Josh didnt say anything. Instead he motioned for her to continue.
"It was the way you looked at her." Adrianna started. "How you talked about her. I wasnt stupid, i knew you still had feelings for her." Josh looked confused.
"What are you talking about?" He asked her. Adrianna shook her head. Of course he wouldnt see it.
"Come on, Josh. I didnt even exist when she was in the room. The way your friends talked about her, the way they would look at me as if I didnt belong, but it was only because I wasnt her." She told him.
"Adrianna, I dont understand you. When I first asked you out, you wanted to hang out with Maya and Riley. You wanted to be friends witht them."
"That was before I knew how you felt about her, before I knew that she felt the same. Your friends would talk when they thought I wasnt listening. They would talk about how you used to tell them how much you cared about her, about how they thought that she was the one. I asked you about her one of the first weeks we wver went out, you said that she was just your Niece's bestfriend, that you cared about her like a sister. I believed you. That's why I wanted to get to know her, to become friends with her, because she was important to you. Anyone important to you I wanted to be important to me too."
"But then when I did go out with her and Riley, I could feel the awkwardness. I knew something was wrong, I knew she was just pretending because deep down she was hurt by whatever that you two had. Then I started going out on regular dates with you, and all you could do was talk about her. I knew what her favorite food was, I knew the kind of music she liked, I knew more about her than I ever knew about you. But one thing stood out to me, Josh. You were in love with her even then."
"The sad thing about this whole story is, I fell for you, and I fell hard. I wanted you to fall for me too. So in my twisted mind I decided that I was going to make you realize you had feelings for me. Thats why I did the things I did. I kept you away from your family, I made you stay away from your friends. I was so blind by jelousy and making sure you knew that I was the only one you could ever love, that I made us both miserable."
Adrianna was trying hard not to cry. She didnt want to let her emotion show in the middle of a coffee shop that held so many great memories for her and Josh. She wanted to keep those memories in tact, even though her and Josh were practically done.
"It wasnt fair to either of us. You were in love with someone else, you werent happy with me, and i should have realized that I would come second to her even after we were married. There wasnt anything that was going to keep you away from her. If she was in trouble, you would be one of the first to line up to protect her. You were a taken man even then, and I should have seen and respected that. I cheated on you because I knew, I knew that I had lost you. I know that isnt an excuse, but I had met somone who realy liked me. And instead of telling you like I should have, I hid it from you."
Josh let her talk, he didnt intterupt her once. Even though he was over Adrianna, it was nice to have this closure. Plus, He thought she might need it just as much as him.
"I'm sorry, Josh. I'm sorry for everything. I shouldnt have done the things that I did. I shouldnt have gotten in between you guys." Adrianna was not full out crying. Josh sighed and closed his eyes before he reopened them and got up from where he was seated.
"Come here." He said. Adrianna was hesitant but she got up from her seat and let Josh take her into his arms. Josh hugged her close as she took some deep breaths to calm herslef down. "I get it, you've made some mistakes. But I made some, too. I ignored my feelings for Maya and instead tried to convince myself that I was in love with you. That was wrong of me. Just because I couldnt find myself being wih the one I really wanted didnt give me the right to lead someone else on. We both screwed up." Josh told her. Adrianna pulled away from him just enough to be able to see his face.
"Josh, do you think that you and I will ever have another chance again?" She asked him. Josh arleady knew that she knew the answer to that question, but she felt like she could at least try. Josh smiled at her sadly.
"I'm sorry, Adrianna. I am in love with Maya. And I know now that there wont ever be another girl for me, she's it." Adrianna smiled and nodded her head.
"I'm happy for you." She whispered. Josh sighed and leaned in to give her a kiss on the forehead before pulling her back into a hug._____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
