Hey everyone!! Thanks for reading and reviewing. I hope you guys enjoy this next chapter!!
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________Maya had spent the majority of her week overthinking her and Josh's conversation from last weekend when she was babysitting Chet. How he called her out on one of the biggest issues that she's struggled with her entire life. Was he right? Yes. But Maya would never admit that to him.
Maya wasn't stupid. She could tell the kind of game that he was playing. What he thought he might accomplish by saying those things to her. He was still hoping that Maya would break down and ask him not to leave. Well he had another thing coming.
"You look like you someone kicked your puppy." Zay stated as he came to walk beside her as she was walking off towards their next class.
"Wouldn't that mean I looked sad?" Maya asked him. She knew with the kind of thoughts she was having about Josh and their conversation, her face had to be seething in anger instead. Zay laughed and shook his head.
"Nope. Not you. If someone kicked your puppy, you wouldn't waste time in being sad. You'd kick their ass." Zay told her. Maya let herself give a soft smile.
"I guess I'm just stressing myself out over these exams." Maya told him. She didn't want to say anything about what happened between her and Josh. She just wanted the whole situation to disappear. Zay shrugged his shoulders.
"Look on the bright side. Only two more big ones to go before we can party ourselves crazy into next year." He told her. Maya rolled her eyes.
"No thanks. You can party yourself enough for the both of us." She told him. Zay laughed as he swung his arm around her and they entered into their next class.
~"What are you doing?" Simon asked. Farkle jumped two feet into the air and caught his water bottle that was on the desk he was sitting at before it dropped to the floor. He turned around and glared at Simon as Simon threw his backpack on his bed and plopped down on top.
"Researching." Farkle stated as he turned back around and started tapping on his iPad again. Simon tilted his head to look over his shoulder and noticed a familiar piece of clothing sitting beside Farkle on the desk. Simon narrowed his eyebrows.
"Is that Maya's shirt?" Simon asked him pointedly. Farkle looked beside him at the shirt and then turned around to face Simon. "Did you take it?" Simon asked him with amusement in his voice.
"I'll have you know, I haven't taken anything of Riley and Maya's since middle school." Farkle told him.
"You stole their clothes?" Farkle rolled his eyes.
"I did not steal. I borrowed." Farkle told him. "And I did not take Maya's shirt. I actually found it here when I got back from class the other day. I've been keeping it here until I've been able to return it to Maya." There was a bit of an accusatory in Farkles tone.
"She must have left it here when we were painting each other for our project in Mr. Petersons class." Simon shrugged his shoulders. Farkle still stared at him. Simon rolled his eyes. "She changed in the bathroom down the hall so she wouldn't get paint on her shirt. She was in a hurry to get back to her dorm and must have forgotten her shirt."
"Just as long as you're not messing around with her." Farkle stated. Simon glared at him.
"You know I wouldn't do that." Simon stated. "Besides, it's not me you have to worry about. We're done, remember?" He asked him with an accusatory tone of his own. Farkle sighed and turned back around to his desk.
"I remember." He stated. "I don't mean to be offensive. I just don't want her to get hurt again." Simon didn't say anything. He knew how much Farkle really blamed himself for screwing things up for Josh and Maya. But in his opinion, he thought that Farkle should at least try to let himself move on from it.
He made a mistake. He jumped the gun a little too soon without asking Josh what had been going on first. But he was just looking out of his friend. There isn't any crime against that. Simon had often told Farkle that Maya couldn't have find a better friend then him. Farkle cared more about Riley and Maya than he didn't anyone else.
"You need to let it go, man. You've apologized, they both have forgiven you. When are you going to forgive yourself?" Simon asked him. Farkle didn't say anything. Which he often didn't whenever Simon brought this up. Farkle kept his head down and continued his research. Simon put his hands behind his head and stared at the ceiling. "Maybe you should talk to Maya. Graduation is pretty soon, Josh is going to be leaving after that. She's not listening to anyone else. Maybe you can talk some sense into her."
"I thought you didn't like Josh?" Farkle asked him. Simon snorted.
"Believe me, I don't." He stated. "But I can see it. The way he looks at her, the way she tries not to look at him. He really cares about her. And even when we were together, we weren't. There's nobody that's going to be able to take the place in her life that Josh has. She'd be stupid to let him get away and she doesn't seem to realize it." Simon told him. There was silence for a moment as Farkle had stopped his research and just kept staring at his desk.
"She does." He said quietly. Simon poked his head up to where he was staring at the back of Farkle's head.
"What?" He asked.
"She does realize it. She just refuses to acknowledge it." Farkle answered him.
Simon was confused as he continued to stare at the back of Farkles head. Seeming to hope that maybe Farkle would read his mind and help him understand a bit better. But Farkle didn't, instead he continued on to do his research, and not another thing was said between the two.
