'Was it too late to turn back?'

Farkle kept asking himself this question as he walked slowly down the dormitory hallway with his hands shoved in his pockets.

He had decided that he had put off talking to Josh long enough. His guilt was getting the better of him and he knew the right thing to do would be to go and apologize to Josh about everything that happened between him and Maya.

Even though Maya had told him that he had nothing to be sorry for, he still blamed himself. He knew Maya was just trying to make him feel better about the whole thing. He needed to make things right with Josh.

He made his way to the door of his room and took a deep breath as he brought his hands out from his pockets. Tightening his fists a little he knocked on the door and waited.

"Yes?" Andrew asked as he poked his head out of the room. Farkle had only seen him a few times around campus, but he knew that he was Josh's roommate.

"Sorry, I'm looking for Josh." Farkle told him.

"Can I ask who's speaking?" He asked. Farkle huffed in annoyance.

"Farkle. I'm a friend of Maya's." He told him. The expression on Andrew's face changed instantly.

"So you're the bastard that broke Maya and Josh up!" He exclaimed. "At least that's what Josh says. Said if he ever got his hands on you..." Andrew trailed off shaking his head. Farkle paled.

"What?" He asked in a weak tone. Suddenly Andrew broke out into a smile and laughed.

"Man you should see your face." He laughed. "I'm just kidding. Josh only mentioned that you were the one that told Maya about him and Adrianna, he never said those other things." He told him. Farkle let out a sigh of relief. "Anyway, you got balls, kid. Coming here like this after everything. Good luck." He winked at Farkle before opening the door wider and then walking past him and down the hallway out of sight.

Farkle looked into the room and noticed Josh staring at him from his desk chair. Farkle shoved his hands in his pockets and cleared his throat.

"Farkle?" Josh asked in confusion. "Is everything okay? Something wrong with the girls?" His tone got more frantic as he stood up from his chair. Farkle shook his head.

"No, nothing like that." He told him. Josh slowly nodded his head as he sat back down slowly in his chair. "It's just- Well I-" Farkle sighed. "Can I come in?" He asked. Josh nodded his head.

"Sure." He said. His tone was full of confusion as to why Farkle would be here. "Are you okay?" He asked him. Farkle sighed, Josh was being nice to him after everything he had done. This only made him feel worse. He should of realized that Josh was a good guy and wouldn't have done this to Maya.

"I'm fine." Farkle told him as he walked into the room and shut the door.

"Dont listen to Andrew." Josh said as he rolled his eyes. "He can be a bit much sometimes." He assured him thinking that was why Farkle looked a little... green.

"Oh no, he's fine. He seems like he has an... interesting sense of humor." Farkle replied. Josh scoffed and rolled his eyes.

"As if." He stated. "What's up?" He asked him as he swerved his chair to face  him fully. Farkle sighed.

"I just wanted to apologize. You know, for what I did to you and Maya. For jumping to that conclusion without actually asking you first." Farkle started. Josh shook his head.

"Farkle-"

"No. Please, let me finish." Farkle interrupted. Josh shut his mouth and nodded for him to continue. "I should have never indulged myself into your business like that. I just thought that I was looking after Maya, but it turns out I was doing more harm then good. Riley told me that you two made things right, but that you didnt get back together. That's my fault. You were happy together, Maya had never been so happy. I ruined that. I'm really sorry." Farkle told him. Josh nodded his head.

"You done?" He asked. Farkle hesitated before nodding his head. "Okay," Josh replied. "My turn." He leaned forward into his seat. "Farkle I dont blame you with what happened between me and Maya." He told him. "I never did. Yes, you should have came to me first before you said anything. But I really shouldn't have left to meet Adrianna that morning. I should have talked to Maya first. The reason me and Maya aren't together anymore, it's multiple things that has nothing to do with you."

"You and Maya didnt talk for a month practically. That's my fault." Farkle stated. Josh shook his head and leaned back in his seat.

"Farkle you were just looking out for your best friend. Maya's lucky to have you. You didnt want her to be hurt more than she already had been. That's not on you, that's on me. I should have had more common sense than what I had. Really, I dont blame you. And I'm sure Maya doesnt either." Josh assured him.

Farkle didnt say anything for a minute as he looked over and around the room. He let Josh's words sink in starting to feel that weight on his shoulders start to lift a little. Then something on Josh's bedside table caught Farkle's eye and the weight suddenly fell back on his shoulder ten times worse.

"California?" He asked as he looked over at Josh. "FBI?" He asked again as he looked over the letter without touching it. Josh shifted in his seat a little as he looked at the letter and then back at Farkle.

"Maya didnt tell you?" He asked. Farkle looked back at him.

"A long time ago." He answered. "Are you?" He asked not finishing the question, but he didnt have to. Josh just nodded his head.

"Yeah, I leave the day after graduation." He told him. Farkle widened his eyes and actually took a step back.

"The day after graduation." He repeated. "That's only three months away. Have you told anyone. Have you told Maya?" He asked him.

"She was the one that told me to take it." Josh said. His tone was tone bitter, but more tired and worn. Farkle couldn't believe it.

"And you actually did?" He asked. Josh shrugged his shoulders.

"What else can I do?" Josh asked.

"Fight for her. Tell her that you dont want to leave her. Josh, you cant be serious?" Farkle asked him again. Josh shook his head.

"What, you think I want to go? You think I want to just move across the country and forget all about Maya? I dont. But I've tried to talk to her, I've tried to protest but she doesnt want to be with me. Even when we were together, no matter what I said. I knew, I knew that if we hadn't stopped seeing each other by the time graduation came along that she would end things. Because she doesnt want to stand in the way of me and this job."

"You're saying that Maya is using this thing with Adrianna as an excuse not to get back together with you because she wants you to leave?" Farkle asked him. Josh shrugged his shoulders.

"You've been her best friend for years. You tell me." Josh told him. Farkle stood there for a minute. Maya told him a long time ago that she would not be the reason that Josh didnt follow his dreams. With that thought, Farkle sighed and shook his head.

"Of course she is." Farkle mumbled to himself more than he said for Josh to hear. "I can fix this." He said suddenly turning to Josh. Josh sighed and gave him a slight smile before shaking his head.

"I'm sorry, Farkle. But Maya made it perfectly clear what she wanted me to do. If she doesnt want me to get on that plane come May, then she's going to have to be the one to tell me." Josh told him.

Farkle understood. Josh had been fighting for Maya since he realized he had feelings for her earlier that year. He was tired of fighting and getting pushed down. Maya had to be the one to want him this time.

"I'll see you around, Josh." Farkle told him as he nodded his head at Josh. Josh wished him goodbye as he left the room, closing the door behind him.
