"What?" you shouted back to Armin and Jean, who were still leaning on the doorframe looking out of breath and haggard. Eren had stood up, letting your entwined hand fall back against the bed. Sitting up straighter, you suppressed a groan and tried to collect your bearings as your head swam with dizziness. Squeezing your eyes shut for a moment, you recomposed yourself from your weakened position.

"When Annie was climbing the wall," Jean huffed, "she broke a piece of it off with her fingers, and now, there's a titan, almost as tall as the Colossal Titan, peeking through it!" You caught yourself as your jaw nearly dropped. "But that doesn't make any sense," you said, sitting up straighter still. Your encased arm caught a glint of the sunlight creeping through the window that Eren Wass now staring out of. "What doesn't make sense?" Armin asked frantically. "Well," you began, starting to get up off the bed... "(Y/N)!" Eren hissed, "you shouldn't be up yet!" You shot him a look of utmost challenging, daring him to stop you. As you hastily got to your feet, the dizziness swept over you again, but you rebalanced yourself. "Why would it not be moving?" you asked, softly. "Why would it just stand there, staring through a hole in the wall, when it could be tearing it down?" "I don't know," Armin said after a pause of thinking. "I saw Hange outside a moment ago when Jean and I first spotted it; maybe she'll know, but I just don't know how it could have broken gotten through Wall Rose- we haven't had any reports!" You paused yourself, thinking. "Maybe it can't move," you muttered under your breath. "What the hell do you mean 'maybe it can't move?'"Eren laughed, "it had to get there somehow!" "I have to agree with the suicidal bastard on this one," Jean grumbled. "Well, I don't know," you conceded. "Let's just go and ask Hange if my ideas make so little sense!" "No," Armin said, so quietly you almost didn't register it, "I think you're right." The three of you looked at Armin as though he were speaking a foreign language as he stood in the doorframe, his brows furrowed in the utmost concentration, and his lips pursed together so tightly that you were sure he had to be breathing solely through his nose.

"Armin," Eren said tentatively, "what do you mean? How could a titan get past the walls without moving?" Armin remained frozen for another moment or two before whispering, "What if they're inside the walls themselves?"

The four of you stood in silence, pondering Armin's hypothesis for several seconds. "Maybe they can Harden like Annie could," he continued, building up his theory, "and maybe that's how the walls have stayed so solid throughout these years- I don't know of any man-made material that could do that!" His eyes were glowing with the light of discovery, and you could tell that he was sure that he was right, because there was no urgency to vacate the walls in his voice. "Armin," Jean began, but you raised a finger to shush him. "I think he may be onto something," you said, thinking through the details as quickly and vaguely as you dared, "but I think that we need to get to Hange and quickly. Maybe she knows something, and if she doesn't, we have to at least run Armin's theory by her." "What do you mean, 'we?'' Eren asked, placing one of his hands on your hip so gingerly and lightly that you almost didn't feel it. "You need to stay here and rest."  You shot him another of your daunting glares and watched as he smirked in satisfaction. "I mean, if any of you want to stop me going," you began, gesturing with your trapped arm to the three of them, "then you're more than welcome to try stopping me." Whether they didn't want to bother wasting time, or because they worried for you further hurting yourself, there were no challengers.

Eren kept his arm around your waist the entire way out of the building, the sun setting delicately behind it. Walking was a struggle, and you felt yourself quickly losing energy and nerve, but Eren kept you supported. Pointing up ahead, Armin directed you to a hole in the wall that was now covered by a quilt. "Is that supposed to be the titan?" you asked, incredulously. "It was there!" Armin shouted in surprise, "but they've covered it up! Why?" A voice behind the four of you jolted Armin back to the grounds of his theory. "Ask Pastor Nick that question, Armin!" Hange's jolly voice shouted back. Looking towards her, you saw that she was clutching a very nervous and antsy looking Pastor Nick by his elbow. He looked very clammy and sweaty, as though he would rather be anywhere else than in the clutches of Hange, who looked utterly delighted in comparison.
