Chapter 6: Beast

It's been 7 days since I kicked Leo Valdez's ass in an archery challenge. So for the past 7 days I've been training with some of the Apollo kids including Sydney's new boyfriend Joey. Since Sydney has been with Joey every second she could we didn't hang out that much any anymore, so I only talked to Sydney during training now. I never see Nicki because she is still learning how to control her water powers with Chiron and sometimes Percy. So other than training I've been hanging out with Percy, Annabeth, Leo, and maybe sometimes Piper. But I mostly hang around Leo.

Today was my tenth day at camp so in honor of that Leo wanted to show me something in the woods. I have no idea why but I let him blindfold me and guide me to wherever he wanted me to. As we were walking there wasn't too much small talk. It was nice just being around him with his hands on my shoulders as he lightly pushed me in one direction or the next. It was such a comfortable silence.

But then I heard a branch snap to my left in front of us and it couldn't have been me or Leo. In mid step I stopped and Leo nocked into me. Making me stumble forward and him almost fall backwards. I ripped off my blindfold and knocked an arrow in the bow that I made sure I had with me when Leo said we were going into the woods. Due to Annabeth's warnings of the various monsters.

"What the heck?!" He shouted.

"Shh!" I shut him up. I heard another branch snap much closer than before. Everything went silent, almost too silent. The birds weren't chirping, leaves weren't rustling in the wind, nothing.

"HANNAH LOOK OUT!!" Leo screamed lunging to push me out of the way, but by the time I turned around it was already on top of me. A giant brown beast that was almost the size as I was forced me to the ground. It's piercing blood red eyes stared into my hazel eyes that had a ring of silver around my pupil. It's fishhook like claws sank into my shoulders while its hind claws tore into my sides as though it was running in place. I let out a cry of agony, knowing that I wouldn't last much longer. I had my sliver bow at the beast throat, the only thing keeping its shark like teeth away from my face. Leo, I thought, where's Leo?!

"LEO?!" I screeched beginning to panic, not able to see him from around the stupid thing's head. Where is he? I thought quickly. But then I saw him. Leo was standing over another beast, but he didn't have any wounds other than a few scratches and a bruised eye. And then there was me, grunting in agony once more as the beast's claws dug further into my flesh. My arms were getting weaker by the second, and the monsters drool was now dripping onto my face.

Now the beast was so close even when I turned my head sideways and pressed it as much as I could against the ground, and still the beast bit a little nick out of my ear. I yelped and looked over at Leo once more who was breathing heavy with hammer in hand over a dead beast.

"LEO, A LITTLE HELP WOULD BE GREAT!!" I said as loud as I possibly could. He whipped around swinging he's hammer as he turned. I closed my eyes trying so hard to hold on to my bow.

THUNK!

Is what I heard when Leo slammed his hammer into the side of the beast face. I felt as the neck went limp on my bow. I let out a long and loud sigh of relief when Leo shoved the beast of me and pulled me up into a sitting position, and he hugged me tightly as though I was the only thing he needed in that moment. I could feel his cheeks get hot and so did mine but I didn't care. Leo pulled away to examine my wounds.

"Shit," he muttered under his breath and I looked down to see four large, deep gashes oozing with thick, blackish red blood. One on each shoulder and two gashes about half a foot long from my ribcage to my hipbone. I was soaked in my own blood and sweat (and drool). At the sight of all this I began to feel dizzy and Leo knew he couldn't leave me out here all alone with beast roaming this place. So as if on cue he cradled me in his arms speaking softly to me, "It's going to be okay Hannah I promise." I stared into Leo's eyes as he runs with me, they were brown but I swear I saw fire dancing in them. Amazing. I thought then let my eyes slowly close hearing Leo yell my name as they did.
