The Demon Hand

The day after I had my first conscious astral projection, I was very excited to get home.  I went to bed early that evening and performed the astral projection exercise as was described in the pamphlet I bought from Peter's Mystical Bookstore.

Moment's later, I was screaming at the top of my lungs as a pair of giant hands with sharp claws and engulfed in red flames suddenly burst from behind me and grabbed my head.  First it turned my body 180 degrees so that my head was now positioned where my feet was and vice versa. Then, the monstrous hand began dragging me with such force and speed.  As  I screamed, I try to free myself from the monster's grip, but it was so powerful.  I really thought I was going to die that night.   I was shouting for help, trying to wake up my sister and aunt who was sleeping in the adjacent room.  I cried for my mother much like a helpless child faced with unimaginable terror.  But no one seems to hear me crying for help.

With all of my willpower, I tried to calm down and began to pray.  I rarely go to church all my life, but I think I called on all the saints that I know together with Jesus and Mother Mary.  Seconds later, I found myself in my room again.  If it was just a dream, the continuity of consciousness to the real world, like the night before, was uncanny.  I was wide awake, fully conscious as I was doing the imagery exercise in my head.  Suddenly, these visions came flashing inside my head as if my brain went haywire, then slowly faded away and I was in control again.  I can not remember if I ever fell asleep that night again.  But I remember there was real fear and terror in me that I have never felt before.

From that point on, I stopped doing the exercise in the pamphlet.  Decades passed, and up to the present day, I have never seriously tried it again.  Not because I was scared of encountering the demon hand again, but fear of something entirely different.  I may have attempted it once or twice but never made it to the point where my heartbeat went crazy.  Also, I think that night was the start when I began having sleep paralysis...
