Hold of you

Hindi ako mapakali sa mga nagdaang oras. I don't know how to properly communicate with Toran after reading his message. I badly want to talk to him but I know the circumstances won't allow me to contact him yet.

If he knew my reason all along... then that explains why he has been distant with his father. I don't want that but if that is the prize his father has to pay for manipulating Toran's future then..

''Gusto mong umuwi na, Lia? Ipapahatid kita sa driver..'' si Lucy iyon. Bakas ang pag-aalala sa boses niya. Hawak-hawak niya ang likod ko habang nakatayo siya at ako'y nakaupo pa rin sa may kitchen counter.

Umiling ako. Roman haven't arrived yet and I don't want to leave without seeing him. Pumunta ako rito sa kanila para mangamusta at ayoko namang mauwi sa wala iyon.

''Hindi.. Hihintayin ko ang Kuya mo,'' I wiped the tears from my cheeks. ''I'm sorry I got emotional..''

Inurong niya ang stool chair at umupo roon. ''What happened? Naghihiwa lang ako ng cinnamon rolls tapos paglingon ko sa'yo, humahagulgol ka na! May nangyari ba sa inyo?''

I bit my lips. ''I've read something..''

Lucy's eyebrows raised. ''Ano? Tungkol saan ba 'yan? Hindi ka iiyak nang ganoon kung hindi importante!''

I sighed heavily and composed myself. Inabot ko ang tubig na nasa harap ko at ininom iyon bago magsalita. I have to share to her what really happened before and that includes the talk I had with Toran's father.

I started with how mocking and sarcastic his father was to me when I attended his graduation. Hanggang sa sinunod ko na ang pagpapakilala ni Toran sa akin sa mga magulang niya ng pormal.

''Oh no.. He lied to you? I mean, yung tungkol sa bruhang Rachel?''

I nodded. I can see the concern in her eyes.

''What did you do, then?''

''I got hurt, Lucy.. Pero may iba pang dahilan kung bakit kami naghiwalay..''

''Ano? Don't tell me he cheated?'' mas lumapit siya sa akin at maingat na nakinig.

Agad akong umiling. ''No.. That's close to impossible..''

Toran can't do that. He may have lied but I know he won't let himself cheat. Malinaw kami sa parteng iyon.

I told her how miserable our financial status was before. Nag simula sa kung paano nagsara ang negosyo ni Mama at tumumal ang kita sa taxi operations ni Papa. It was so hard for me to share that part because I first handedly experienced and saw how devasted my parents were. Na pati ang pag-aaral namin ay naapektuhan dahil hindi kami makapagbayad ng tuition.

Kita ko ang lungkot sa mukha ni Lucy habang kinikwento ko ang problema sa bahay dati. This is new to her. She haven't experienced problems with financial because she's rich. Ramdam ko na nalulungkot siya ngayon habang nakikinig at bakas iyon sa mukha niya.

''That day, when we had dinner with his parents, his father gave me a preposition,'' halos umigting ang panga ko nang sinabi iyon.

''What... yung tatay ni Toran? Anong preposition?''

''Makipagbreak daw ako kay Toran at.. aayos ang problema ng pamilya ko..'' halos bulong iyon. I can't look at Lucy because I'm not sure if she will understand me.

''Oh shit.. That prick! Mukha pa namang mabait sa TV!'' she hissed as she held my hand. ''That night.. you broke up with him?''

I shook my head. ''No.. I gave him cold treatment.. ilang linggo ring ganoon at sabi ko na.. hindi ko na siya mahal..''' I avoided her gaze after saying it.
