Kabanata 29
New Girl
It made me happy, yes, in a way. But the problems at home has its way of bothering me.
My father won't tell it directly but I'm sure that we have a problem financially. When I told him that I passed, his reaction seems to be delighted. But when he realized that me passing the exam equates to him providing financially, nagbago ang ekspresyon niya.
Nonetheless, I'm here at school, and I'm on my fourth week.
The first week of law school wasn't a problem to me, the second week is. I initially got shocked with the workload it requires.
The second week made me feel culture shock and stressed.
There were multiple recitations but I was able to read the cases required.
But when the second week came, I just want to give up.
But then, Toran is always there to wait for me. Palagi akong sinusundo.
''Toran,'' I called him when we were eating in Ramen Nagi.
''Hmm?''
Kaso may quizzes pa kami, e. Tapos yung cases na kailangan basahin at idigest, dumadami. Tignan mo yung eyebags ko, lumalalim na,'' I pouted. ''Swear, next week talaga!''
He chuckled. Nilapag niya ang chopstick.
''Don't worry about it. Pero I'll take note to that. Next week, then.''
''Saan ka pala pumunta nung isang araw? Nabanggit mo sa akin na lumabas ka nung hapon,'' I said as I chew on my ramen.
He licked his lips slowly.
''W-well, I went out with a friend..''
''Hmm. Si Lionel?''
''No. Matagal na siyang nasa Bicol,'' he said.
''Oh.. Edi sino? Classmate mo sa masteral?''
Tumikhim siya. ''No,'' he stopped. Mukha siyang nag-isip sandali. ''I went out with a friend..''
Ngumuso ako. Mukhang ayaw niyang sabihin. Okay lang. I trust him, anyway.
