Luke Hemmings sat on the bench with a defeated sigh. After a tiring, non-successful day of job searching, Luke just wanted to sleep forever.

He slumped down and waited for his friend to come pick him up and take him back to his apartment.

It was getting quite late, the darkness was slowly stealing its way in, making everything quite hard to see. He could still see a few people, however, but most of them, he concluded where teenagers who didn't want to be around at their home.

His eyes were drawn to one figure who was standing right by the lake, hands buried deep in his pockets, and a contemplative look on his feet.

Alarm bells rang in Luke's mind as he jumped to his feet. He had witnessed too many moments like this, teenagers who felt like there was nothing more to live for and decided to jump into the freezing cold and deep lake.

He strode over to the teenager quickly and called out to him.

The boy flinched and glanced over to him. Luke caught sight of red-rimmed, swollen eyes and tear tracks down his cheeks before the boy glanced away.

"Are you okay?" He asked gently.

The boy gave a jerky nod and replied. "Yeah, I'm fine."

Luke rolled his eyes, "Yeah, sure." He fell silent and watched the boy. He was ignoring Luke completely and looking out at the lake, obviously waiting for him to leave him be. But Luke would be damned if he was leaving until he found out what was wrong.

"How come you're out so late?" He queried, "where are your parents?"

"My parents are dead," The boy bluntly told him. "and I don't think it's any of your business."

Luke nodded slowly. "Okay then, whats your name?"

"Corbin." The boy muttered.

"Well Corbin, good to meet you," Luke held out his hand, "I'm Luke."

Corbin's eyebrows raised and then asked, "No last name?"

Luke stuck his hand in his pocket when it became apparent Corbin wasn't going to shake his hand. "Uh, it's Hemmings."

Corbin let out a small laugh. "Funny name."

Luke smiled, then frowned abruptly. "So, why are you out here by yourself?"

"Who says I'm out here by myself?" Corbin challenged.

"The fact that you're staring contemplatively at a very deep lake tells my that you aren't with anyone." Luke said mater-of-factly. "No one looks at a deep lake like that while waiting for someone."

Corbin frowned, "Like what?" He questioned.

Luke started right into his eyes and answered. "Like you want to jump right into this lake and no one will save you."

Corbin stared at him for a moment, a bewildered look on his face. "Who are you?" He asked, the tone of his  voice giving away the fact that, yes, he was contemplating ending it all right then.

Luke smiled gently. "I'm a child psychiatrist."

Corbin sighed. "I kinda had a freak out moment at my foster place and ran out." He softly admitted.

"Why'd you freak out?" Luke pressed.

Corbin shrugged. "I have to move in with a family that I don't wanna." He explained.

"Why don't you want to move in with them?" Luke asked, not quite understanding the problem.

"Personal problems," Corbin told him. "I have bad memories from the last time I was in one of those families."

Luke nodded, a sympathetic look on his face. "Well, maybe it would be a good idea to go back to your foster place and explain your issue." He said.

Corbin raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, maybe, but I find it difficult to talk about my feelings, it's like there's a barrier blocking that stops me from talking."

"Yeah, I get that." Luke agreed. "Do you have someone you trust at your present place?" When Corbin nodded, he continued. "Then I would suggest that you talk to that person, and really try to explain how you feel," He smiled. "it's a lot easier to talk to someone you trust."

"Yeah, you may be right." Corbin took his phone from his pocket and checked the time. "I think I should go back, the boys are probably having multiple heart attacks."

Luke chuckled and nodded. "You do that, see ya Corb."

Corbin gave him a small smile and started walking away.

"And don't forget to talk to someone!" Luke called out after him.

Corbin gave him a thumbs up. "Thanks Luke!"
