Chapter 21
Aubrey's POV

We all sat at the long table in the dining room. Anthony was sitting next to me, Austin was sitting next to Rebecca and they wouldn't stop making heart eyes at each other, then Turner was sitting next to Eddie.

The mood in our dining room was quite odd. Maybe it was because normally father would unveil bigs plans to us here or maybe, it was because Anthony was here. There wasn't a person in the room that hadn't been surprised when Anthony kissed my cheek before sitting down, almost showing me off to my own family. I had to hide my blush with my hand just so no body would see how tomato red I got.

Mom was taking a sip of her wine when Austin started to bring things up. "I'm hope you're doing well with everything, Malia. I couldn't imagine how you're feeling."

She stopped in her tracks as she put her glass back down. I had noticed that over the course of these last couple days her grey hair was starting to show more; for as long as I can remember she had gotten it dyed. Always the perfect amount of highlights and only very few grey hairs actually showing. Her red coffin shaped nails had grown far away from the cuticle. As if to show this was putting her through more of a struggle.

Mom looked at Becca, "I didn't think you were telling anyone outside this family."

Becca shrugged her shoulders. "He's going to family soon enough, Mom. There's really nothing to worry about, who would he tell?" She asked, not knowing what could actually happen.

Mom rubbed circles on her forehead before looking at Eddie. "So I hear your going back to college, Eddie. That's wonderful, what are you majoring in?"

Eddie put his napkin back in his lap and smiled. "Political Science, Mrs. Smith."

"You don't have to call me that, Eddie. Malia is just fine." She paused. "Our family is just kinda going through a lot right now."

Eddie chuckled. "Trust me, I know the feeling."

Anthony grabbed my hand from under the table and started to play with my fingers. He rubbed circles on my palms and only unlatched our hands when he was getting something to drink or when he had to use his other hand. Becca had been watching our exchanges like a hawk. She also had told me almost two nights ago that I just needed to forget about the kiss, forget about everything.

I didn't understand where she was coming from with that. She'd seen the way my stupid face lit up when he texted me and she had to know what was going on in my brain before it even happened. Becca was smart, she went to school to be a lawyer. She had to play connect the dots with cases, so why couldn't she do it now? Why couldn't she figure out that my heart isn't being chained with a lock and a key anymore? Maybe she did and she just wanted to keep it a secret but I hardly believed that.

"Aubrey, what grade are in?" Eddie asked.

"I'm a senior; I've been sending out college apps for about two months now and I've gotten all early admits. Including some from last year," I cleared my throat. "I'm on track to run my father's company and soon enough it will all be mine."

Sounding like a villain, how great, Aubrey! I thought to myself.

"That's nice... cool actually." He said.
