That night, in the Slytherin common room, Darah sat alone studying her timetable.
'Mind if I sit here?' A boy's voice sounded above her, she didn't have time to respond as he'd already sat down. She looked up, the voice belonged to Draco Malfoy who, as well as Darah, had gotten into Slytherin.
'Flying lessons tomorrow.' Scowled Malfoy. 'They think we can't fly yet.' He scoffed. 'I've been doing it for years, since I was a baby.' He said proudly.'Really?' Darah said fondly and surprised. She had never flown before, in fact, she'd barely even practiced magic as her father forebode it.
'Oh yeah, it's so easy.' Draco boasted. 'Wait, have you never flown before?' He choked.
'Well no, I've only just got my first broom last week.' Darah said shyly and slightly ashamed.
Draco laughed. 'Seriously?'
Darah gave him a timid smile and shrugged. 'Can't do magic outside of Hogwarts.' She sighed simply.
'My father says that's a load of rubbish, he thinks we should be taught before school so we can be better, the best.' Draco reckoned.
Darah laughed nervously. 'Must be cool to have parents who let you do stuff.' She spoke disappointedly.
Draco raised his eyebrows. 'Your parents don't let you do magic?' He questioned. Draco was used to being free unlike Darah who had barely touched a wand.
'Well my father doesn't want me out of his sight much. And I don't have a mother so everything are his own rules and decisions.' She sighed disappointedly but not hurt.
'Oh.' Said Draco simply. 'I guess you're glad you can get away from him at Hogwarts then.' He said tiredly.
'Yeah.' Darah replied faintly knowing she would still be very restricted with her father watching her around school.
'Draco, you coming back?' A pug-faced girl looked over towards him.
'Yeah coming Pansy.' Said Draco lazily. 'I'm Draco by the way, Malfoy.'
'Darah Lucie.' Darah replied back.
'Funny, haven't heard of the Lucies. Are you pureblood?' He questioned.
'Erm, half-blood.' Darah replied quickly.
'Hm.' Draco raised his head simply with no questions and turned to leave.
At that moment Darah decided to get up and go to the potions classroom to see her father. She had just made it to the door when Severus Snape came bursting in, swiftly brushing past her.
He looked down at her slyly and back up to everyone else in the room. 'Alright I want all of you in bed now.' He announced slowly and coldly.
Everyone packed their things away and made their way to the bedrooms. Darah waited a while sensing Snape would speak to her.
The room emptied out and Snape turned sharply to the side to face is daughter.
'Didn't I just say go to bed, Miss Lucie?' He snarled.
Darah gulped. 'I wanted to speak to you... sir.' She felt strange addressing him as a professor.
Snape kept his expression the same but stood still allowing her to talk.
She lowered her voice. 'I'm the only one who hasn't used magic before, everyone else can fly and do spells.'
'Nonsense.' Snape replied shallowly.
Darah gave him a concerned look. Then made her way to the bedrooms, just as she was about to be about of Snape's sight he said 'congratulations on getting into Slytherin.' She turned around and gave him a weak smile and left the room.
Snape was left alone, paused. Suddenly he whipped around, his cape swung strongly in response and he left.
