Finally Professor Snape arrived and told them all the good news that the troll was gone.
Darah felt an instant sense of relief wash over her even though she had been pretty distracted in the end.
She caught Snape's reassuring look in the corner of her eye, something only his own daughter would be able to notice. She felt the urge to hug him but instead just smiled discretely and went back to chatting with the other first year Slytherins.
Snape left silently and left everyone in the common room for the rest of the evening.
Darah was about to head to bed when Draco called after her. 'Hey! Lucie.'
Darah spun around halfway up the stairs. 'Yeah?'
'I was just wondering if you wanted to come to the library with me tonight?' He trailed off at the end and Darah couldn't quite hear him.
'Sorry? What was that last part?' She asked him.
'Do you wanna come to the library with me tonight?' Draco spat at her but somehow kindly.
'Oh erm, why?' Darah asked confused. 'It's curfew.'
Draco raised his eyebrows. 'Exactly.'
Darah giggled and left to go with him. They snuck around the castle, making sure not to get caught by Filch or Mrs Norris.
'Ugh, the Gryffindor common room is just past that fat lady.' Said Draco disgusted, scrunching up his nose.
This sprung a question to Darah's mind. She looked at Draco wondering to ask him or not. 'Speaking of Gryffindors... what do you know about' she then went into a whisper. 'Harry Potter?'
Draco looked at her questioningly. 'Why do you care?' He scoffed.
'I don't, I just want to know what's the deal, you know.' She bluffed.
'Well you must know he's the chosen one?' He said simply.
Darah raised her eyebrows.
'You seriously don't know anything? Are you muggleborn or something?' Draco tried to find a reason for Darah's lack of information on the Wizarding World.
'No my Dad's a wizard. I don't know about my Mum. And he never really said anything about Harry Potter.' Darah shrugged.
Draco shook his head in confusion. 'Right well, Potter is the chosen one, the dark lord tried to kill him and his family but sadly failed. That Potter annoys me, my father knows best and he says Potter is better off not being a wizard.' Draco ranted on whilst briefly telling the story of the boy who lived.
Darah thought to herself whilst blocking out Draco's muttering. She wondered why Harry had survived and destroyed Voldemort. She was curious and decided she wanted to risk going against her father's restrictions and talk to him.
'Finally, the library.' Breathed Draco out of breath.
'I don't see you as the library type.' Darah mocked.
'I'm not!' Draco snapped. 'But when I show you this.' He used the alohamora spell and heaved the heavy door open. 'You'll wanna come too.' He gave an unreadable smile.
He guided them to the restricted section. He pointed to a locked book with a mermaid on the front. 'This book right here.' He hovered his wand over it, lighting it up. 'Is the key to this stupid school.' Darah looked at him in doubt.
Draco brushed it off and proceeded to grab the book gently. He tapped it three times in a triangle shape and an object flew out. He put the book down and grabbed the object that was now lying on the floor.
'This was my father's.' He held it up. It was a big silver ring with a snake on.
'He says it makes you a powerful wizard. Bought it in Borgin and Burkes when he was my age.' Draco said proudly.Darah observed it. 'It's just a ring?' She was confused.
Draco scoffed. 'You seriously know nothing about dark magic do you?'
'I do too!' Darah retorted back.
Draco rolled his eyes at her. 'Look closer.' He pointed at the heart of the serpent. Darah squinted her eyes and looked intensely at the ring.
She stood back up. 'Yeah still can't see it.' She sighed lazily.
'Ugh.' Draco moaned. He pointed his finger violently at the snake. 'This snake represents Salazar Slytherin, the founder of Slytherin house. Therefore this shows you are a true Slytherin and it holds his wisdom.' Draco insisted.
'That's it? I kinda already knew what the whole snake and Slytherin thing meant, you should have just said.' Darah doubted sarcastically.
Draco was getting annoyed now. 'Alright, if you don't care then go back.' He shooed her away.
'Alright, night.' Darah said unfazed and started to walk off.
'Hey, wait for me!' Draco called after her. He put the ring back, covered up his tracks and they both left together.
