We finished studying when Orpheus was already gone for practice that I couldn't attend as I was supposed to be sick.
Nadia: I'm exhausted! They are asking a lot from us.
I looked at her condescendingly. The door opened.
Myrto: I'm going to go with Dad, to see Mom, okay?
And so we found ourselves alone in the house with the darkness slowly spreading around us.
Nadia: What are we going to do...?
Erica: Do you want to watch some TV?
We've had enough tension these days, it's worth a little rest. We curled up with all the blankets we could collect on the couch. The lack of heating seemed to bother Nadia a lot, but I never heard her complain to me about it.
I still can't explain how I managed to sleep there with her when I already had an overcrowded rest cycle. Maybe it was the warm climate or the security that was running through the atmosphere, but we fell asleep.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Light pierced my eyes, it must have dawned. I rub them with my punches and move to wake up her by shaking her gently. But through the window, I can see it's deep at midnight. Something's wrong.
The flames lick Nadia's face with light, the reflection of her eyes depicts a gruesome scene. As much as I don't want to look at my head instinctively turning slowly towards the library. It's empty, the books are on the floor and candles are lit between us.
Nadia: They're here.
Her whisper sounded like a scream in my head. The door wasn't completely closed indicating that someone had broken into the house before. I hooked up to the frozen girl. We fell down by slipping on the curtain. The exact same scene, we were living the nightmare again.
I tried to listen to the place and sense a different human presence. Nothing, no light steps, no whispers. All the soft tissues in my body were tightened, my senses were fully activated, but I couldn't find proof that anyone was here.
Although I could feel that someone was with us, I had this feeling that didn't come from my fear, nor from my sanity. It went through me. Nadia got up and ran to the phone. The power's out. I watched her with my irregular pulses.
It evolves with mastery taught by me, momentarily I felt pride. My receipt appeared, steps from the outside. I didn't know what to do. I wonder if it's the father who's entering the apartment through the half-open door. My best friend found herself next to me tense.
We shared the same body at the time, the same heart, the same chemical reactions. We were united on a level of our own. The door's closing. We didn't know if the person was gone. We trembled at the thought of the steps we should take as they were already predetermined.
We decided silently, out of a sense of self-preservation. We had to notify the cops to save ourselves. The cops waiting to catch me.
