The door was sealed behind me by the person who had initially let me in, whose identity remained secret. I prepared for the worst, turned my head slowly up only to see Myrto staring at me with a grudge. But wasn't she supposed to be kidnapped along with the rest of the family?
Erica: What's going on?
Simple and obvious question. I didn't understand anything, and my mind was dusty, like a cloud of fog was blanketing it. I try to get up on my knees, but she knocks me down again with a sharp flick of her hand.
I was incredibly impoverished at the time, just waiting to see that Nadia was safe and alive. Myrto didn't say a word, dragged my malnourished body into the middle of the living room. Her touch ten times stronger than all my energy.
My gaze was left on the floor half-confused and half-scared. On the floor, I recognized something in horror. Candles were placed circularly leaving only a small gap like a corridor used to crawl through it along with the endless books of fiery arrows stacked opposite me.
The scene of the ceremony was ready and I was at the center of it. I was able to see another figure of a girl near me. She was tied with a rope all over her torso.
Nadia: Erica!
Erica: Nadia!
She was in a terrible state. Wounds covered her entire face and rope marks were on her hands and feet. It looked like he had been grabbed and held by force.
Erica: Who did this to you?
Jason: Didn't you say you knew? The fire arrows did it, we.
I was looking out of the circle. Mr. Jason, Myrto and Orpheus!
Erica: I don't... The robberies? The illegal books? The cult?
Nadia is defeated. The look of disarming.
Nadia: On those nights, I heard strange sounds and found myself in the living room facing the scene of the ceremonies, there were never any signs of forced... I'm so stupid.
She was not in a logical state. She was saying all of these like she was reading them from somewhere.
Jason: Right, you are not capable of understanding our ceremonies and so you misunderstand them. Unfortunately, it is for only a few, the chosen ones, as I constantly mention in my books.
Erica: You..
Jason: Yes, Erica, I am the author of fire arrows. I was even informed by my mother that you've read some of them. Too bad my books were in the hands of an incompatible woman.
The information didn't fit in my brain. They were exploding like small bombs on the outskirts, destroying any healthy tissue that was there. The perfect family consisted of heretic killers.
Erica: But what's the point of this..?
Jason: It's simple.. We want to be purged as a nation, as humanity. You've been given a life you didn't deserve. To you, Nadia, my wife.
Mrs. Eurydice.
Nadia: My mom.. What did you do to her? Is it your fault he got what happened to him?
Myrto: I'm afraid that's what your beloved brother is responsible for. Although a member of us, I have to admit, he's quite weak compared to the rest of us. The diagnosis of inability is out. The coma was caused by overconsumption of bitter almonds. Your stupid brother decided to kill her. When I found out that I gave him a loud slap, it was very disrespectful.
Nadia: But now Mom's fine.
Remind her not to lose her mind.
Myrto: Not for long. First, we'll purify you, and then it'll be her turn.
They're going to kill us.
Nadia: They're going to find out, you're going to get caught. You won't get away with it!
She was desperate, the terror filled her swollen and wounded cheeks. Mr. Jason laughed at her attempt.
Jason: The fire arrows are a truly united group and not like the circus we had for a family. They're going to cover for us by taking our place in the police like they've done in the past. The arrested alleged authors of the fire arrows.
Myrto: Let the ceremony begin.
