A Complete Family

It has nothing to do with Heaven vs Hell. I hope y'all enjoy. All characters belong to Cassandra Clare.

Alec was on patrol with Jace, both of them keeping a sharp eye on the Bleeder's Den across the street. They watched as women went in and a few men. The vampires had made them sign a deal that said that they could not stop or invade a Bleeder's Den unless a vampire is Turning someone, killing someone or if someone under the age of 18 gets bitten. The Shadowhunters had to agree to prevent an uprising or even a war.

"Parabatai?" Jace said warily and Alec turned to look at where Jace was pointing. It was at the Bleeder's Den and Alec saw it. A woman was going in but with her was a child who could be no more than 15. The brothers looked at each other and jumped off the low roof they were using to watch out. Both of them sprinted to the Bleeder's Den.

The gear hid all their runes and their weapons were well hidden. Just to make sure their eyes hadn't lied to them, Jace and Alec pretended that they want to be bitten and went inside. It turned out their eyes hadn't lied. The woman was there and a vampire towered over her. What was worse was the fact another vampire was leaning over the child, who they could tell was a girl. The girl was protesting. Jace took out his seraph blade, whispered an Angel's name and the blade showered the Den in light.

"We are Nephilim and we are ordering that this Den be shut!" Jace bellowed and angry vampires turned to him. "We have not done anything, Nephilim," a vampire screeched. "You have allowed a child into this Den; that's more than enough evidence to shut this Den," Alec said calmly. "We do not have a child in this Den!" a different vampire protested. "Is that so?" Jace asked mockingly and went over to a table. The girl stood there and Jace led her forward. "This is a child. Not a cockroach," Jace said and Alec punched his arm lightly. The vampires looked at the girl, then back at Alec and Jace.

 "This Den is going to be shut. There is vague bite-mark on her neck. It's clearly a vampire's. Once we have taken her to the Institute and she is well enough to speak, she will tell the Clave what happened. This Den will shut down. This is probably your last night here. Have fun," Jace said cheerfully and waved. The vampires did not attack. They knew they were in enough trouble as it was. Alec, Jace and the girl made their way out of the Den.

Once outside, Alec looked at the girl more carefully. She had dark brown hair and her startling green eyes were very wide and they were nearly black. He lips were slightly parted and Alec knew she was in shock. "She's in shock," Alec told his parabatai and Jace looked at the girl with sad eyes. "I'll take her to Magnus; he can help," Alec suggested and Jace nodded. Swinging the girl into his arms, Alec got into the cab that Jace had called and made his way to Brooklyn.

There was a knock on the door. Magnus let out a disappointed breath. It wasn't Alec; Alec would just use his key. "WHO DARES DISTURB THE HIGH-" "Magnus?" Alec said from outside and Magnus was confused. Why didn't Alec use his key? With a click of his fingers, Magnus opened the door.

"Alexander-" Magnus paused. Alec was carrying a girl in his arms. She appeared to be in a state of shock. "Have you adopted us another kid?" Magnus asked, bewildered. "Shush," Alec said, "She was in a Bleeder's Den. Someone took her there on purpose. The vampire got a tiny scratch on her, but it's more the shock," Alec explained and Magnus nodded before gesturing for Alec to lay the girl down on the sofa.

Magnus rushed around and brought some hot tea. "Hey, angel," Magnus spoke softly to the mundane girl. "I know you are in shock, but I also know that you can hear me. We are going to help you, darling, but I need you to relax and drink this." Magnus held out the cup to the girl's lips. She took a sip slowly. "That's good, angel," Magnus said after fifteen minutes. The girl had finally drunk all the tea.

Magnus magicked up some blankets around the girl and both him and Alec knelt beside the sofa. "Mum," the girl said in a croaky voice and Magnus held his hand out. The girl took it. "What was that, sweetie?" Magnus asked gently. "My mum," the girl said, slowly reviving from her shock. "My mum used to go to the Bleeder's Den. She got addicted. She told me about the Shadow World and she decided to take me to the Den today. My mum is horrible. And if not for the him -" the girl gestured at Alec, "- and the blonde one, I don't know what would've happened to me," she explained and in a whisper, she added, "I hate my mum; she's been vile since Dad ran off."

Surprisingly, it was Alec who responded. "Hush, sweetheart. I'm sorry about tonight. But it'll never happen again, baby. You're going to be safe with us." "Are you keeping me?" the girl asked, hopeful. Alec looked at Magnus and Magnus and him shared a look. "Your mum?" Alec asked. "I don't want her," the girl said determinedly and in a small voice, she added, "Please keep me. I'll be good. I promise."

Both Magnus and Alec's hearts clenched and in unison, they said, "We'll keep you, angel, of course. You're with us now." The girl smiled. Alec knew he'd have to do a lot of work to finalise the adoption, but it would all be worth it. He knew that especially after hearing Max and Rafe come into the lounge.

"Is this my sister?" Max asked eagerly. And without waiting for a response, Max threw himself  at the girl. The girl hugged him back shyly. "I'm Max," Max introduced himself proudly. "I'm Ava," the girl said and she looked at Rafe. "Rafe," the little Shadowhunter said and smiled. Max hugged Ava again and said, "Welcome, big sister!" Magnus and Alec smiled at each other, eyes full of love, and for some reason the family felt even more complete with Ava there.
