What Even Are We?

We stayed in that position for a few minutes. I processed what Joshua just said as a smile was plastered on my face. Thank goodness he couldn't see me grinning like crazy since my face was hidden in his chest.

"By the way, do you want to eat lunch together? You haven't eaten anything since you woke up," Joshua asked and I looked up at him giving a wide grin.

"Sure!" I replied cheerfully upon hearing about food, which made him chuckle a little. He then took my hand and walked to his kitchen. I followed behind, looking around his place. It was a very simple and cozy home. Although it was a large penthouse, there wasn't anyone else here.

"Hey Joshua, do you live here alone? This place is pretty big for one person after all," I questioned curiously as we entered the kitchen. He turned to look at me and smiled. "Yes, I stay here alone cause my manager said that it's dangerous for a celebrity to just live anywhere. And I do have helpers but they only come when I request for them to cook or when I'm not around to clean up the place. I told all of them to not come today though cause you're here and I didn't want to make you uncomfortable." I felt my face heating up and looked away. So we were alone in his house right now?

Joshua then showed me an apron and asked, "Wanna help me cook?" I looked back and chuckled nervously. I unintentionally started playing with my fingers. I can't cook. The only thing I knew how to cook was instant noodles. I've even burnt bread while toasting it before.

Joshua saw how I was being silent and slowly came towards me. He inched closer and closer and when I realised what he was doing, I instinctively stepped backwards each time he stepped forth. Unfortunately, my back hit the wall behind and Joshua quickly trapped me between his arms. He started leaning in. His face, especially his lips, inching ever so close towards mine. Knowing what he was doing, I closed my eyes. However what I was waiting for never came and a good 10 seconds had passed. I slowly opened my eyes one after the other and saw a smirking Joshua.

"Expecting something?" He gave me a playful grin then took a step back. He hung the blue apron he was holding around my neck and pulled me closer to him to tie the strings behind my back. My heart was beating faster and faster as a tint of pink became visible on my cheeks. I hurriedly regained my composure once he was done tying and he looked into my eyes for a while. He then spoke up, "I know you can't cook. You would always come up with excuses to not do so whenever I asked you last time. You always diverted the question and changed the subject when I mentioned about it as well. So don't be afraid of sharing with me your fears and weaknesses alright? I love everything about you; your personality, your looks, and especially your flaws."

My heart skipped a beat at what he said and I grinned widely. No one's ever told me that before. And despite meeting me after 10 years, he still loved me for just the way I was.

"Hmm... what should we make..." Joshua mumbled to himself as he looked at the ingredients in the refrigerator. I saw that he had turkey and chicken breasts, pasta sauce and broccoli in the fridge. I quickly moved around the kitchen, opening the cupboards to find something. Joshua realised what I was doing and asked what was I searching for.

"Do you, by any chance, have the pasta noodles thing? We could make pasta with the meat and broccoli you have in the fridge. I made it before with my sisters and it seems like you have most of the same ingredients," I said as my eyes and hands were frantically going through the drawers.

"Ahh you mean these pasta macaronis?" He asked. I turned around and saw the packet of uncooked pasta macaronis in his hand. "Yes!" I exclaimed then rushed to the fridge to take out the ingredients we would need. As I did so, I also took out the chopping board and knife which I found while ransacking his kitchen earlier.

"Seems like this is already your home," I heard Joshua joke and stopped what I was doing to face him.

"Sorry. I just really wanted to try making this for you," I said and gave out a nervous laugh. Joshua then came near me and placed the packet he was holding near the stove area.

"It's fine Amber. I appreciate the thought but let's make it together this time, alright? I've been wanting to do this with you ever since we became a couple."

A large grin appeared on my face as I nodded my head. But wait, does that mean that we were a couple again? This was really confusing. Our relationship was confusing. We hadn't met in 10 years, could we still get back together again?

Joshua poured enough pasta macaronis for the both of us onto a pan and switched on the stove, igniting a bright blue and yellow flame. He placed the pan on the stove and stirred the contents inside. I pushed the thoughts in my head earlier to the back of my mind and stood at the sink on the other side of the kitchen. "I'll wash the chicken breast and broccoli and cut them. You can add them into the pan and we can heat everything up with the pasta sauce in the microwave afterwards," I instructed and he gave me a salute. "Yes ma'am!" I giggled and placed the meat I washed onto the chopping board. I then began cutting it into small pieces. However, my hand slipped and I accidentally cut my finger which was holding onto the meat. "Ow..." I let out very softly. But Joshua heard me and came to my side at the drop of a hat. He saw my bleeding finger and took it in his hands.

"You should've been more careful with the knife! What if the cut went deeper? I'm calling the doctor," Joshua started lecturing me and was about to take out his phone from his pocket when I stopped him with my free hand.

"Hey, there's no need to see a doctor for this. Plus, it's just a small cut. I'll just disinfect it and bandage it. No need to worry over such a little thing Joshua hehe," I chuckled at how worried he was and reassured him. He sighed and slid his hand to my wrist. He brought me to the living room and sat me down on the couch. He went to a nearby cupboard and took out the first-aid box. He came back and his hands started moving swiftly. After taking out a small piece of gauze to clean up the area, he picked up a cotton bud and applied the disinfectant medication on it. He dabbed the scratch on my finger with it and covered the wound with a plaster. What he did next astonished me. He kissed the area of the boo-boo and looked back at me with a serious face.

"Be careful next time okay? You're too precious to me so don't get hurt." He said gently, making my heart flutter. My thoughts on our relationship from earlier came back to me and I sighed. I couldn't hold it in anymore. I needed to know what he was thinking.

"Joshua, w-what are we really? We just met again after 10 years. Yet; you keep saying and doing these kinds of things which make my heart beat like crazy. I can't control it and it's making me confused. Like, what even are we? We just met again after a decade! And that's not a very short time you kno-" I was cut off with Joshua's lips on mine. I was startled when he held my neck and pulled me in closer, but then kissed back without a second thought. He broke the kiss and the fingers of the hand that held my neck before traced the shape of my mouth as he spoke.

"I don't care if it's been 10 years. I've loved you in the past, I love you right now, and I will keep loving you until the day I die."
