~~"Hello? Is anyone there?" I asked and looked around my surroundings. It was pitch black and I was tied tightly to a wooden chair. I kept calling out for someone, anyone. But no response. Then, all the lights turned on. My eyes squinted and slowly adjusted to the sudden change. A man carrying a syringe slowly walked towards me. What he said next sent shivers down my spine. "Time for me to finish what I started."~~
"Wait. No. NO! STAY AWAY FROM ME! SOMEONE HELP ME!" I screamed and sat up on my bed. Beads of sweat were trailing down my face and back. "It was just a dream, thank goodness," I mumbled and checked my phone. It was 6am. I calmed myself down and laid back on my bed. That was my first nightmare after 10 years. I used to dream about getting beaten up in junior college. But this was worse. This was the worst dream I've ever had.
I tossed and turned in bed. I couldn't fall asleep. The moment I closed my eyes, the vision of being attacked just came back to me instantly. I sighed and started scrolling through my phone. Would Josh still be sleeping at this time? I thought about it for a while and decided to try calling him. I expected him to not be awake. However, he immediately answered.
"Hello? Amber? What happened? You don't usually wake up this early in the morning," I heard panting and raised an eyebrow.
"Sorry, I couldn't sleep and wanted to talk to you. Are you okay? Why do you sound so breathless?"
"Oh, I just finished my morning run. I'm walking back to my house. Did you have a bad dream?"
I sighed. "Yeah, I really hope that man is caught soon."
Then there was silence.
"Josh? Are you still there?"
"Do you want me to come over?"
I froze. Wait, he wants to come to my house?
"Only if you're comfortable with it. I can help you fall asleep again if you're still tired," he added. Well, he was right. I would feel protected and wouldn't think about the nightmare if someone was here with me. After much thought, I agreed to his offer.
An hour later, I heard the doorbell ring and scurried to the door. I unlocked it and allowed Josh to enter. I saw that he was wearing a hoodie with jeans as he greeted me. It's been a while since I saw him wear such casual clothes. He looked around the place, saying it looked nice and cosy. I didn't really do much at home other than study and search for jobs so the entire house was really clean except for my room. Josh then handed me a plastic bag. I gave him a questioning look and he just grinned. I took out the bottle from the bag and realised that he bought me my favourite milk tea. I thanked him and smiled with glee as I gulped down some of the drink.
