It's my favorite time of the week! Update time : ) Read to join some of my favorite characters. Comment while you read!
Kids line the hallway, the faint smell of alcohol flowing in the breeze from outback as we approach the living room.Mike walks in, his eyes lighting up as he spots Saige. He walks over, sweeping her into his arms, kissing her. "Hey, beautiful." She blushes. "Wanna go meet some of my friends?" She nods and they walk away, Saige waving at me.
I glance around, completely out of place. A kid walks in, from the backyard, just as wide-eyed and out of place as I am. His black hair covers part of his left green eye, his hands in his blue jean shorts pockets that nicely contrast his white t-shirt.
A couple walks behind him, pushing him into me. "Well, this is an awkward way to meet."
I nod. "For sure."
He sticks out a hand, backing up. "Marcus."
"Lyla."
"Well Lyla, sorry for bumping into you, literally."
I laugh. "It's okay."
Marcus smiles at me, sitting down on the couch next to me. "Wanna play twenty questions?"
I smile. "I have nothing else to do. "
"Ok. Music- Halsey or The Chainsmokers?"
"Halsey. Duh."
He sighs, his eyes echoing relief. "Good. Otherwise, we couldn't talk."
I laugh. "Baseball or football?"
"Baseball. Cubs or Sox?"
"Diehard Cub fan."
"Same!" We high five, my nerves on overdrive as our hands make contact.
"Our loveable losers have been really putting the emphasis on the losers part."
He smiles sadly. "I know. It's sad."
"Really sad cause they used to be good."
"For sure."
"You have any siblings?"
"A little sister. You?"
"Nope. I'm an only child and my dad divorced my mom when I was five."
"Oh. Sorry."
"Nah it's fine, I barely remember him anyway."
He nods. "Are you in any teams?"
"I'm on the tennis team."
"I thought I recognized you." I laugh and he smiles. "I'm on the football team."
"Nice."He nods. "What's your favorite thing to do other than be with your family or playing your sport?"
He pauses. "I'd have to go with volunteering."
I grin. "Same, actually."
He laughs. "Where do you want to move to?"
"New York. I'd love the bustling city life, and being in such a diverse city."I smile. "I hadn't thought about it that way. I would move to California. The beaches, the sun...it just sounds so nice."
Our conversation spirals from topic to topic as we get to know each other. His favorite color, green, while mine is blue, what he wants to do, he has no idea, just make a difference, which we both agree.
Then suddenly, after what feels like hours of talking, he stops talking, fishing his phone out of his pocket. "Want to exchange numbers?" My eyes widen in shock. I haven't even known him for a day! His cheeks flush. "As friends."
I laugh softly. "Sure. " I pull out my phone and we exchange numbers, smiles lining our faces.
