SCOUT
I storm through the castle towards Felix's office. He's still away, but I need some documents from his desk that prove that Leon cannot challenge warriors on each day that they are supposed to be training just because his ego is strong right now. My pack may be less strict than this one, but I'm going to uphold the ideals my cousin works hard to keep, so when he returns, it'll be just like when he left.
A few more winding turns, and my goal is in sight. I come to a halt when I see Mystery standing beside the door to the office. I brace myself and continue forward with reinforced confidence. He doesn't regard me much until he sees my objective and blocks my path.
I stare at him blankly, and he stares back. Thus continues for a few more seconds until he breaks out into a side smile. "What business do you have here, Miss Alpha?"
I could tell him, but I'd rather not humor him, lest he'll find a way to get more in the way. I don't know much about him, but I have suspicions that he enjoys poking his nose where it doesn't belong. "I have a hard time believing that you're actually stationed here."
"Yeah, that's because I lied. I'm supposed to watch over you."
In an instant, I am furious. "I'm going to kill Felix when he returns."
"I think I should have clarification on if that's an actual threat or not," I push past him and into the office. He remains by the doors, but his presence is annoying enough. I obtain what I need and leave, only to be triggered more because, as anticipated, he's following me.
It isn't until I stop to talk to Leon that I get an idea. If he has to follow me, I'll make him run for his money. After proving to the Gamma that Felix's instructions did not include one vs. one battles, I hurry along only to abruptly stop and pretend to fix something. In my peripheral vision, he stops too, a few hundred feet back. I proceed on, talk to a few people I hardly know, and suddenly have to tie my shoe. I can feel his stare lingering on me. Knowing that I'm making this difficult only brings me joy.
I'm in the outskirts of the pack now, looking over the construction sites. All buildings must meet regulations and safety codes. I make a couple of circles around the vicinity, squinting as if I hadn't already gotten all the clarification I need. I make my move, veering to the left instead of the right like I had every time before. I'm in the comfort of the street congestion, only to be startled when I glance behind me and he's there. Did he anticipate that?
"Come on, Alpha. Is that all you have?"
Oh, I'll show his arrogant ass.
I glare at him, and he sighs, covering his eyes. Is he giving me a head start? I don't need it, but I'll take it. I zig-zag through the pack grounds, make a circle and a half around the castle, and sprint into the woods. In the fifteen seconds I catch my breath and anticipate him finding me, my heart rate begins to calm down until I hear a rustle behind me. A twig snaps to my left, and I spin towards it. These scents... they do not belong to this pack.
Something moves in the brush, and I catch it but pretend not to notice, facing my back to the perpetrator. I'm confident I have the enemy, but somehow my wolf is still uneasy. With a snarl, the wolf dives out and I spin towards him, just as another ambushes me from the other side. The only reason I'm not pummeled is because Mystery jumps in at the same time, successfully knocking the other guy to the ground. I pin down the brown wolf in front of me with my body and pocket knife at the ready. Briefly, I catch a glimpse of the animal's glowing eyes, and I'm startled. Something within me jolts from the unnatural electric-green hue. The color fades and the wolf whimpers. Still in shock, I loosen my grip, and he dashes out into the woods. His buddy is already knocked out by Mystery's feet.
