i have never been quite so happy over any of my covers before so this baby's staying for a while.

"All I'm asking is for you to take it easy for a while, Sis. I get that your job is pretty demanding, but you need some rest." I picked anxiously at the cuticle of my thumbs as I shrugged, "it's not that big of a deal. I'm used to not sleeping, so I feel fine."

My younger brother worked as an underground surgeon, and my employment was currently with the Phantom Troupe. Over the past couple weeks, I had endured a bit more stress than usual. And on top of that, sleeping had also become an issue.

"I don't think you understand, Y/n. Overworking yourself like this is extremely unhealthy, and I'm positive your coworkers would agree with me. Should I give your boss a call?" he asked, pulling out his cellphone.

"No! Listen, if any of the Troupe members find out about this, they'll probably demote me or something! You don't know those guys like I do," I panicked while making a desperate reach to his phone. "Fine, fine. I won't call him just 'cause I know how embarrassed you'd be to hear me talking about you to your crush~" Now I remembered exactly why I despised having a kid brother.

"Shut up, you little good for nothing—!"

In the end, I threatened to publicize his entire otaku collection if he didn't keep his mouth zipped.

That night, I was trudging back to headquarters when I received phone call from Phinks. "Hey, can you drop by the supermarket and get us a pack of beer? Oh, oh! Get some of those Sour Cream & Onion Pringles, too." Just listening to the sound of his voice irritated me, not to mention I had to walk all the way back.

"Are you serious? Why don't you guys just raid it after closing hours?" I questioned rather sarcastically. "Well we were hoping you could just pay using your cash. Anyway, just make sure you get those Pringles. Adios." I could feel my blood boil deep within the epitome of my soul.

"And would that be cash or card?"

"....Cash..."

"Thank you, have a nice evening!"

Awesome. I just spent the rest of my money over snacks for those stupid ingrates. God, I was so broke it wasn't even funny anymore. I worked as a literal thief for a living, and I just used up the remainder of my savings.

Whatever, as long as I made contact with a bed in less than an hour, I would be fine. Maybe I should've taken my brother's invite to crash at his place into consideration. Oh well, it wasn't like I could turn back now.

"Did you get the goods?" Phinks asked eagerly. He reminded me of a stray mutt looking at dog food for the first time in weeks. "Yes, I got the goods." The slick-haired blonde hollered in triumph as he snatched his beloved Pringles from the grocery bag.

"Damn, you only got one six-pack?" pouted Uvo. "It was all that I could afford. You should be grateful I got anything at all," I huffed. "Wow, you sure are broke, Y/n," he thundered with laughter. There was probably going to be a homicide before the night was over with.

I noticed that Chrollo was sitting at a distance, away from the family of thieves. I decided to approach and take a seat beside him. "I heard you went through quite a lot these past few hours," the Boss chuckled lightly. For some odd reason, making conversation with him was always so easy, despite the agonizing fact that I had feelings for him.

"Yeah, those guys really are demanding. But it's fine, I guess I needed something to spend money on anyway."

"You look tired, Y/n. Are you feeling alright?" His face suddenly drew closer to my own. "Y-yeah! I'm ok! It's probably just the poor lighting," I lied, my face practically beaming red.
