"What do you think of France?"
"You're kidding," I finally managed to say.
I nodded.
"Figured I could take you to Marseille today. I'll get you home by midnight. Nagpaalam na naman ako kay Tito at kay Mom so they could authorize our travel as minors." As if an afterthought, he added, "Tayong apat lang ang nakakaalam, tinakasan ko si Juan so he won't have to babysit us in Marseille."
The moon casted a soft glow in the atmosphere which made the place feel more dreamy.
I was at the brink of explosion and I wasn't about to let that go.
"Magbibihis lang ako," I grinned before dashing into my room to look for clothes.
I held on the edge of the rails bago ko unti-unting hinila ang sarili paakyat.
"Anong ginagawa mo?" He pulled me back to the center of the balcony na mas lalo kong ikinalito.
"Aalis na tayo diba?" I asked.
"It's been a while since I saw you this excited," he said wistfully.
It was contentment.
He easily crossed the room towards my door in a few steps dahil sa haba ng binti niya at nagawa pang kumuha ng suklay sa side table ko.
He placed the brush into my hair so it wouldn't fall. Pagsasalitaan ko pa sana siya dahil mas lalong nagulo ang buhok ko sa ginawa niya pero binuksan niya na ang pinto and stepped out.
"Tulog na ang lahat," wika niya as though in assurance habang sinisigurado kong tahimik na maisasara ang pinto. Nasa front door na kami nang tumigil siya sa pinto, his hand on the doorknob. Bumaling siya sa akin, that cunning look he probably wore when he planned this was on his face. "I didn't do it for secrecy, I did it for the drama."
I choked on a laugh pero bago pa man muling mabuo ang halakhak sa aking lalamuna'y hinawakan na niya ang kamay ko't hinila ako palabas.
I didn't think of the people we were leaving behind. Of the disappointment my mom would feel for having to cancel a party she's been looking forward to. Of the litany I'd have to listen to once we return.
I wasn't being selfish by choosing myself today.
I ended up sleeping on Jordi's shoulders in the entire flight.
