Late night music bingeing has led to this. It's an au where they just met and become friends.

I'm tempted to say I'm not sorry but I'm crying writing this, so I am sorry.

"Hi! I'm Zedaph, nice to meet you!"

"I'm Impulse and this is Tango, nice to meet you too, Zedaph." The dragon hyrbid greeted the brit, arm loosely hanging over the fire elemental's shoulder.

"Can I call you Zed? Or Aphy?" Tango asked, excited to meet this new possible friend.

"Both work, though Zed is preferred." Zedaph replied, a smile across his face.

The trio spent the next few hours talking and getting to know each other, until it was time to head home. They said their goodbyes and parted ways, thinking of their next encounter with each other.

After a few months, the trio was inseparable. No one would ever see one of them without the other two. They deemed themselves Team Z.I.T., always making little jokes about the name.

The two Americans never noticed anything, but their friends always thought something was off with the brit of the team. He didn't seem to have a good relationship with flowers for some reason, which seemed normal enough, until you realize the severity of it.

Zedaph tried his best to keep away from flowers when with his friends, and if one caught him holding a wilted flower, he played it off like he had just found the poor plant.

Some friends outside of the team questioned him about it, but he brushed it off, always saying the same thing.

"Never had much of a green thumb, y'know?"

Soon enough, Tango got suspicious of Zedaph and his apparent disliking of flowers. He devised a plan with Impulse to plan a picnic in a flower field, wanting to know how their friend would react.

Soon enough the day came, and the trio had their picnic set up in the middle of a large flower filled meadow. Zedaph tried his best to keep from touching any flowers, which the other two noticed.

"Zed, are you allergic to pollen?" Impulse asked, ignoring Tango's small face palm.

"E-erm.. no, I just don't like flowers.." Zedaph replied quickly, looking back at the two.

"I've caught you in Impulse's garden holding a bunch of dead flowers, that can't be the case." Tango stated, moving the plate of a now forgotten sandwich away from his lap.

Zedaph felt cornered, not sure what to say but not wanting to say the truth. He shifted his sitting position, head aimed down as he stared at the picnic blanket's design.

"What's going on with you? We wanna make sure you're okay, Zedaph." Impulse placed a hand on Zed's shoulder, trying to calm him.

"I.... Dang it..." Zedaph started, rubbing his eyes.

The duo in front of him exchanged a quick glance, before they moved to sit beside him, embracing him in a hug from each side.

Zed looked up at the two, surprised at the action, but not refusing it. He leaned against Tango, letting out a small sigh.

"Pass me a flower and I'll tell you." Zedaph finally cracked, eyes closed and expression somber.

Impulse reached towards the edge of the picnic blanket, plucking up the nearest poppy. He handed it over to the blonde in the middle.

The two watched as it wilted as soon as it made contact with Zedaph's skin, speechless as the brit opened his eyes and began to talk.

"Where to start... without being too blunt hopefully. Don't wanna shock you any more than I have... I'm not exactly... human?" Zedaph explained, noticing the other two relax after he spoke.

"Barely anyone here is, what's so wrong with it?" Impulse stated, gesturing to his horns and wings.

"Well... I'm not exactly on the same level as mostly everyone here. Cleo.. maybe.." Zedaph continued, making Tango perk up.

"You're an undead? Or something like that?" He asked, his red eyes filled with interest and amusement.

Zedaph chuckled slightly as his excited expression, but his smile grew small.

"In a way, undead. Not a zombie or skeleton. You could tell immediately if I was, but I'm... I'm a ghost." Zedaph explained, seeing the duo grow tense in surprise.

They were silent for a moment, before hugging him tightly.

"Not a ghost if I can hug you." Tango mumbled into Zedaph's shoulder, earning a smile from the brit.

"Still a ghost, just solid right now." He laughed, pushing the two off of him.

"So the flowers wilt because you're a ghost? They show that you're dead?" Impulse asked, picking up the discarded poppy.

Zedaph nodded, standing up and facing the two. He looked sad, which worried them.

"I never wanted to tell you, or even get this attached to you both... I'm not staying for as long as you think... I have two more months here.. before I disappear for good.."

The two were silent, Tango's eyes were wide while Impulse had tears running down his cheeks. They stood up quickly, hugging the ghost tightly and knocking him to the ground.

"Why do you have to leave?! Why can't you just stay?" Tango asked, on the verge of tears himself.

Zedaph hated seeing them like this. He wiped Impulse's tears, placing a hand on his cheek.

"I.. I've stayed too long, being solid like this as a ghost... it's draining. I'm sorry, Impy... I'm sorry, Tango.." The brit choked out, holding back tears of his own.

The trio laid there, in each other's arms until night fell, not wanting to talk, just enjoying their presence for as long as they could.

When it got dark, they got up and silently packed up the forgotten picnic. They went home, staying at Impulse's base for the night since it was closest.

The trio laid in the bed together, cuddling each other. None of them wanted to be without each other after hearing the news.
