"It's better this way.."

Mumbo thought to himself as he watched the heart rate monitor, rubbing his thumb over his boyfriend's knuckles. The blonde was laying in the hospital bed, curled up on his side with tears in his eyes.

The doctor walked in, looking towards the bed as he put away a pen into his shirt pocket.

"Grian, are you ready for sedation?" The doctor asked, placing a hand on the patient's shoulder gently.

Grian shook off the doctor's hand, making a small noise in defiance. The doctor let out a small sigh, pulling up the shoulder of his shirt to speak through the small microphone on it.

"He's not compliant, but we have to continue. Bring in the sedatives." He spoke into the microphone, causing Grian to curl up more.

Mumbo let out a small noise of despair, he hated seeing his boyfriend like this. He planted a kiss on his forehead, not really surprised when he got no reaction. After all, Grian wasn't responding to much right now.

A few nurses walked in, one wheeling an IV drip up next to the bed, which already had one hooked up to the patient.

The nurse began to set up the IV, unhooking the one he had in and hooking up the second one. The other nurses were watching the monitors to watch if something went wrong.

Mumbo couldn't keep his eyes on anything but his partner, tears streaming down his own cheeks. Grian's eyes slowly fluttered closed, his face falling calm.

"We'll administer the amnesthics in a few hours, once he's gotten enough rest. He's been through enough recently, don't want to stress him more." The doctor stated, looking around at the three nurses who stood in the room with him.

Mumbo let out a sigh, wanting to grip Grian's hand to comfort him, but it wouldn't work. Grian wouldn't feel it. And in a few days Grian wouldn't even remember what happened. Not even remember Mumbo.

Mumbo stood up, though he really didn't want to leave his side, and walked out into the hallway where a few friends were either pacing or sitting, but always crying.

"It happened so fast.. thank goodness Grian's alright at the least..." Scar mumbled, huddled up against Cub with Bdubs on the other side, rubbing his back.

Iskall was pacing so much, you'd think he'd put a groove into the floor. Stress was trying to get him to relax, to sit down. It wasn't working.

"Iskall, please.. just sit down.. relax a little... we'll get the news in a few hours.." The brit pleaded, stepping to stand in front of the Swede.

"How can I relax right now?" He snapped, earning the attention of the trio on the seats next to them.

"Grian's in there, about to be injected with Notch knows what! And my best friend! My best f-friend..." Iskall trailed off, tears falling from his eye.

Stress pulled the male into a tight hug, letting out soft sniffles of her own.

"I k-know.. but w-we are in this together, we'll work t-through this.." She comforted, rubbing circles on his back as he gripped onto her shirt.

Another friend rushed into the hallway, spotting the group and stumbling to get to them, almost dropping his headphones in the pursuit.

"Please tell me he's okay, I got stuck in traffic and I couldn't make it here sooner." Taurtis explained, tears staining his face.

Cub looked up at the Evolutionist, nodding slightly. "Grian's okay, he'll just need time to recover."

"And Mumbo?" His voice cracked with worry, having befriended his best friend's boyfriend and wasn't told the full story of what happened.

"He's gone." Iskall muttered, pulling away from Stress and wiping his tears as he turned to look at Taurtis.

Fresh tears welled from everyone at the relay of the news.

"I have good news, thought you'd like to hear it.." A somberly calm british voice said from behind everyone.

"What is it, X?" Bdubs asked, wiping the tears from his face as he glanced at the admin.

"My helmet is reading an eighth energy signature beside Iskall." The admin stated, tapping the side of his visor twice as he glowed a slight purple.

The Swede's eye widened, mouth open to speak but unsure of what to say. Taurtis beat him to it.

"It's Mumbo. Isn't it?"

Xisuma nodded, smiling weakly under the helmet, but no one saw.

"How did you know, T?" Bdubs looked at the red and blue themed male.

"I've experienced something like this, Grian and I never told anyone about this because high school was a touchy subject. We had a friend... or what we thought was a friend.. He went insane and tried to kill us, almost killed me multiple times." Taurtis paused, letting that sink in before continuing.

"While I was in the hospital in a coma, he forced Grian to.. be me.. Grian hates wearing any of my clothing or accessories because of if. I was pronounced dead once during the coma, I.. I was a spirit, I guess.. I went to watch over Grian, keep him safe from our friend.. I was brought back to life before I could stop anything."

Everyone was silent, unsure of how to process all of this new information about their friend's high school years.

"So you're saying that.. Mumbo is here? In like a spirit form.. to watch over Grian?" Scar said quietly, a small smile on his face since knowing Mumbo was here brought comfort.

"I assume so.." Taurtis nodded, fists clenched as he let the memories of high school fade again.

Xisuma noticed the energy signature move away from Iskall, over to Taurtis and embrace him. The admin smiled at the action.

Mumbo may be dead, but he was still here with them.
