Y/N continued to see Draco around the castle on a daily basis. It was quite silly of her to hope she wouldn't have to run into him again, considering they both ate, slept, and had classes under the same roof. At meal times she often sat with her back to the Slytherin table just so there wouldn't be any chance of accidentally catching Draco's eye, which would give him an excuse to interact with her. She couldn't always avoid his gaze during their shared classes however, due to seating plans some of the Professors had put into place. She kept her head down during those classes, feeling grateful that she didn't have to sit next to him.
She didn't understand why he always seemed to be watching her so closely. It was almost as if he was afraid he was going to miss something important. If it was any other boy at Hogwarts, Y/N would be flattered by the constant gazing, but this wasn't just a regular boy, this was Malfoy; someone who was basically supposed to be an enemy, and she couldn't help but feel like he was plotting something against her.
The following night, Y/N couldn't sleep. Between the whole Draco fiasco, all the homework she had due, and the sinking feeling in her chest because she was missing home, the poor girl couldn't stop her mind from racing long enough to let her get some rest. Feeling quite sick of stating at the ceiling, she got up and decided to go for a walk. She knew this was technically forbidden, but Fred and George had told her so many stories of their midnight adventures that she figured maybe night security wasn't as strict.
Y/N crept quietly out of her dorm, tiptoed into the common room, and carefully slid out the door.
She had been walking for ten minutes before she saw a shadow out of the corner of her eye. She brushed it off, convincing herself that her tired mind was just playing tricks on her. The girl set off down the castle corridors once more, attempting to clear her mind as she walked. Y/N hadn't gotten very far before she stopped her movements yet again, swearing she saw the same shadow as before out of the corner of her eye. She didn't believe she was just seeing things this time, and turned in the direction of the dark blob. As the shadow came into focus, she realised it was a person, and not just any person. It was Malfoy. Draco, Malfoy. Once he realised Y/N was staring straight at him, he ducked down the nearest corridor. Y/N waited for a few seconds to see if the platinum boy was going to come back again, but he didn't. She assumed he had gone back to the slytherin dorm, so she kept walking; attempting to clear her mind again, not bothering to think about why Draco was also out at night.
Now exhausted, Y/N began walking back to her dorm. As she rounded the last corner of the castle before the Gryffindor common room, a figure appeared in front of her. It was Professor McGonagall. The girl could tell she had been woken up, as she didn't look very pleased.
"Good Evening Miss Weasley. I got word that you were out here wandering the halls" The professor said quietly yet sternly.
Just as Y/N was beginning to wonder how she found out, the same platinum blonde boy she had run into on her walk came out from behind Professor McGonagall.
"Don't you know it's forbidden to wander the halls, Weasley?" Draco said with a smirk.
"Please let me handle this, Mr Malfoy. Both of you, follow me."
The pair followed Professor McGonagall into an empty classroom, and as Y/N turned to glare at Malfoy every so often, he maintained his signature smirk.
"Miss Weasley, could you please tell me why you were out of your dorm?"
"I'm sorry but I couldn't sleep Professor. I thought a walk would help clear my mind, I wasn't doing anything bad, honest." The girl cautiously replied, not wanting to get into too much trouble.
"Either way wandering the halls at night is forbidden. You leave me no choice but to give both of you a detention tomorrow."
Draco's head turned sharply. His face immediately dropped as his smirk turned into a confused glare.
"Excuse me Professor, did you just say both of us?" He questioned, insisting he did not deserve to be punished for turning you in.
"Yes, Mr Malfoy. You were also wandering the halls, were you not?"
Draco sighed as he realised he'd also snitched on himself.
"If I ever catch you spying on Miss Weasley again, there'll be harsher consequences"
Y/N was now the one smirking, as the blonde haired boy looked stunned and defeated, as if his entire master plan had just been revealed. That'd show him.
"Now, please, go back to your dorms, both of you."
The gryffindor girl didn't have to be told twice. She sped out of the empty classroom with the intention of making it back to the common room as quickly as she could. She didn't stop to look back at Malfoy, or curse him for turning her in. Although she really would've liked to, Y/N told herself she'd save that for tomorrows detention.
When she was finally back in her own bed again, her thoughts began to race. Why was Draco out at night anyway? Was he truly spying on her, or was it just a coincidence that the pair ran into each other? What would her parents say when they found out that she not only had a detention, but it was going to be shared with a Malfoy?
Y/N's brain finally got tired of running over the same thoughts, and she fell asleep hoping that detention wouldn't be so bad. She also hoped her siblings wouldn't find out.
