When Y/N didn't turn up for breakfast the next morning, Ron grew worried.
"Don't worry, I'm sure she's just having a sleep in or something" Hermione said reassuringly.
The Weasley boy put his sister out of his mind as breakfast arrived on the table. He hoped she wasn't sick or injured, his Mum would have a field day.
Just as everyone had started eating, Professor Dumbledore stood up, as if he had an announcement to make.
"Apologies for interrupting your breakfast, everyone, I just have something important to discuss"
Students for all four houses turned to the front of the hall, giving him their attention.
"I regret to inform that last night, Y/N Weasley was hurt during detention."
Ron turned to face Hermione so fast that he felt the blood rush inside his head. After giving her an "I told you so, you were wrong" look, he faced Dumbledore again to get details on his sister.
"Miss Weasley had detention in the Forbidden Forest last night. She broke her ankle after being crept up on by a hooded figure. We have our theories as to what that creature might've been, but that is not currently important.
I'd like to stress just how dangerous the Forbidden Forest is. We forbid you from going there for a reason. Of course, Miss Weasley did nothing wrong, she did just as she was told to do, but was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
She is currently in the hospital wing and is expected to make a full recovery, so please do not worry. That is all. You may return to your breakfast."
Ron turned to look at Malfoy. He knew Y/N was with him last night. Had he caused his sister's injury?
But the redheaded boy had no time to continue his dark thought, as he took in the sight of Draco.
He wasn't smirking or looking proud of himself like he would be if he had successfully deliberately hurt someone. The platinum blonde boy looked sad. Troubled. Worried, even. Ron had never seen Malfoy show remorse before. This was strange.
Turning back to discuss what he had just heard with Harry and Hermione, he decided he'd make it his priority to ask Y/N for the full recount of last night. If Draco had hurt his sister, he wasn't going to let it go lightly, no matter how intimated he felt by the Slytherin boy.
Y/N woke up in the hospital wing.
"Oh good, you're awake Y/N" Madam Pomfrey said as she walked towards the girl.
"I'll go get Hagrid, he can explain what happened better than I can."
A few moments later, the large, bushy man walked through the door.
"Glad to see you're alright" He chuckled as he stood next to Y/N's bed, not daring to attempt to squeeze into the visitors chair.
"I suppose you're wondering how you ended up here"
Y/N nodded, listening intently.
"One minute everything was fine, next thing I know that Malfoy boy was running towards me, out of the forest. Told me you'd hurt yourself, and that you needed help. Before I could ask him what happened, he was on his way back to the castle. Found you lying on the forest floor, Y/N. Your ankle was broken, and you appeared to have blacked out from the pain."
The girl's eyes peered down to her foot, where there was a bandage, confirming Hagrid's story.
"Carried you up here to Madam Pomfrey, she fixed you right up. Good woman, Poppy. Well I must be getting back to my duties, I'm glad you're alright Y/N". Hagrid said as he got up and walked out of the hospital wing.
A hour later, Madam Pomfrey gave the Gryffindor girl the all clear to leave, as long as she promised to take it easy on her ankle. Although she'd managed to fix the broken bone, she warned it could still be fragile for a few days.
Just as Y/N was leaving, the nurse stopped her.
"I forgot to tell you dear, you had a visitor this morning. A blonde boy. Had the whitest hair I'd ever seen in this school. I couldn't let him in as you were still sleeping, but I told him I'd let you know he came by."
Not only had Draco ran to get help when the girl hurt herself last night, but he'd also tried to visit her this morning.
Y/N thanked Madam Pomfrey before leaving with a slight smile on her face. Maybe Malfoy wasn't so bad after all.
