"And you are allowed to bring partners, but we ask that you please choose wisely, to ensure the night runs smoothly."
Y/N was sat amongst the other Gryffindor students as Professor McGonagall spoke, giving them information about the upcoming Yule Ball.
She was quite excited, as it really wasn't often she got the chance to dress up.
Y/N knew there was only one person she'd ever consider going to the Ball with, but she wasn't sure if he'd ask her or not. Were events like this even his thing?
Herself and Draco had exchanged many letters over the holidays, and they were well past the point of being just friends, but it wasn't exactly clear to her where they stood.
The Malfoy and the Weasley weren't officially together, but it's not like they were actively pursuing anyone other than each other.
As much as she hoped he'd ask her to go with him, she didn't want to force it. Draco was still new to the world of love and affection, and Y/N wanted to make sure he wasn't emotionally rushed. The last thing she wanted was for the blonde boy to feel overwhelmed.
"What're you thinking about?"
At the sound of Hermione's whisper, Y/N was brought out of her thoughts.
"Huh? Oh- uh- nothing really." She shrugged as she turned to face the girl next to her.
"It didn't look like nothing. But anyway, is there anyone you want to go to the Ball with?" Hermione smirked as she bumped Y/N's shoulder with her own.
"Maybe a certain, Malfoy ?"
The Weasley stared at the brunette, trying to keep her face as straight as possible. She failed.
"Oh shutup Hermione" Y/N chuckled as she looked at the ground, a blush rising to her cheeks.
"I'm just saying Y/N, if you two are trying to hide something you're not doing a very good job. Half the school is still talking about you. Including your brothers"
Y/N jolted her head back to it's normal position,
"Wait what?" What do you mean? What've they done?"
"Don't worry about them, either work on being more secretive or just come out and tell everyone you're dating-"
"We're not dating."
"Close enough from what I've heard-"
"Hermione!"
"Sorry, Y/N. Just, please think about what I said."
Y/N gave her a small nod before turning back to face McGonagall again.
Half the school talking about her and Draco? What did she mean by the things she'd heard? Her brothers were somehow involved now?
As much as Y/N wanted Draco to set the pace of things between them, maybe it was time to be "public" about their association with each other. She couldn't decide whether hiding it or being open about it would cause them more grief.
Whichever path they took, it was a risk.
Thoughts rushed through Y/N's head as she made her way to the Great Hall for lunch.
That was until, she heard a familiar whisper,
"Y/N!"
Smiling whilst turning her head, she was met with the pale face of the blonde boy she had just been thinking about. Must be a mind reader.
"We've really got to stop meeting like this, Malfoy" Y/N chuckled as she reached his hiding spot in the shadows.
"Ah I dunno, it's kinda cosy, isn't it?" He smirked as leant in and hugged her.
"You alright love? You appeared to be in very deep thought before I summoned you over here"
"Oh, yeah yeah I'm alright, was just thinking about some things" Y/N smiled as they pulled away from each other.
"Good. I thought I may've had to hex somebody for making you upset" Draco whispered as he returned the Weasley's smile.
"So, is there a reason you've called me into the shadows? Not that I mind"
"Oh, right, yes. Meet me by the tree near the lake after potions this afternoon"
"Hmmm alright, I guess I can take time out of my very busy schedule for you" Y/N teased as she chuckled.
"Oh how kind of you madam" The blonde boy spoke in a posh accent as he imitated a bow, making Y/N giggle.
"Don't worry, I'll be there Malfoy"
"You better be, Weasley."
