It had been two days since Y/n had been engaged. She was yet to tell anyone and frankly, she didn't plan on it. For now all she could do was avoid Aiko as much as possible, which was difficult because he too took classes with Master Paku. Luckily for Y/n, he was in the beginners class and she, along with Katara, was now in the advanced class, so if she was being smart about it, they rarely crossed paths. If Y/n did see him in town she made sure to run the other way. Every time they did speak, Aiko would try to get her to go on a date with him. Aiko wanted to be all mushy-gushy-couple-like, Y/n wanted none of that.

She didn't need nor want him.

As Y/n walked home in the brisk nighttime air she added to her list of excuses to get out of dates with Aiko. As she neared her home she didn't even realize her father was standing outside her home on the front stoop, awaiting her return.

"Y/n!" He shouted sternly, snapping Y/n back to reality, "Get inside right now!" Y/n picked up her pace and ran inside, terrified of what he could be angry about. The door slammed behind her, she didn't even have time to take off her boots and coat before her father began to shout at her.

"I want the truth and nothing but it!" He yelled, Y/n was sure the whole city could hear him, "Are you or are you not the female waterbender?!"

shit.

She should have written a will.

"well-"

"Don't you dare lie to me!" His voice boomed over her, "We have had this conversation once and that is more than enough!" He moved foreword, towering over Y/n, "You will drop the classes immediately, and you will stop seeing any friends, including Yue!"

"Why in the name of the spirits would I do that!" She interrupted.

"Because I am your father and I said so! I don't want you to turn into-"

"HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED WHAT I WANT?!" Y/n shouted over her father, "I WANT TO BEND, AND I WILL CONTINUE TO BEND BECAUSE I LOVE IT AND IM DAMN GOOD AT IT!"

"YOU ARE A LITTLE GIRL YOU WILL NEVER BE GOOD AT BENDING!"

"WELL OBVIOUSLY YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ANY OF MY CLASSES, I HAVE BEAT EVERY STUDENT PAKU HAS, INCLUDING YOUR DEAREST KYLO!"

"IT IS NOT YOUR ROLE IN SOCIETY!"

"WELL THATS BULL!"

"TRADITION SAYS-"

"TRADITION IS STUPID!"

He grabbed her by the wrist again, pulling her up to his face like he had done so many years ago, "Tradition is there for a reason," her father spoke harshly, "You are weak, and you will never fight. That will be your future husbands job. That will be Aiko's job." He said, dragging to her room where released her just inside the door.

"Aiko will never be my husband." Y/n spoke harshly into her fathers face.

He grabbed her again, this time by the collar of her parka, "I am your father, you are my daughter, until you are married, which you will be once you turn sixteen, I own you. What I say goes." He dropped Y/n and slammed the door in her face, locking it from the outside.

Y/n couldn't take this anymore. She had to get out, to go somewhere, anywhere. She ran through the list of people she could go to.

Yugoda? no she would send her back.
Yue? no her father is the chief, he would send her back.
Aiko? no why did she even think that, the whole reason she wanted to run away was to get away from him.

Katara. Y/n could go to Katara.

She ran to her closet, frantically ripping it apart to find everything she needed. Out of the back corner Y/n pulled a decently sized, thin, navy blue backpack. It had one large pouch, a smaller pouch, and hidden zippers inside the big section.
