Luz was sitting on the ground, her pencil flowing against the paper. The graphite scratching the surface. Eda and Lilith had left for some 'sister bonding' and king had left with them. However questions lingered in Luz's mind. 'Why were Amity's parents in her dream?' and 'what happened to Amity and the twins?' Amity had failed to return to school and the twins were nowhere to be found. It had been a week since the fire, the emperors coven working to find out who did it. Another crime added to Luz's growing list.
Willow and Gus sat on the couch. Willow was reading her textbook, her eyes darting back and forth. Her brain connecting dots as she scribbled notes onto the pages. Gus was practicing with cue cards. Each card had detailed illustrations of different people. He picked a card from his pile and then transformed himself into the person drawn. Taking time in the mirror to make sure he had each of the little details down.
Suddenly the door burst open and Boscha stumbled into the room and fell to her knees. Tears were dripping down her face. Her eye liner was running, and Boscha was taking deep breaths. Her lungs struggling to catch up from the run. As Luz crept closer she smelled sweat and perfume mixing together.
"Are you okay?" Willow asked crouching beside Boscha, her hand stroking the three eyed girls back.
"I don't want to Marry Amity!" The girl cried from the ground.
"What?" Gus screeched from the couch, falling off in the process.
Luz stood still, unable to comprehend what Boscha had just said. Her mouth was agape, opening and closing in shock. Completely stunned by the proclamation. As everyone slowly understood what Boscha had just blurted out, questions began to form.
"What do you mean Marry Amity?" Willow asked first.
"Did you run away when she proposed?" Gus continued snickering.
Why wouldn't you marry Amity? She's perfect!" Luz finished, genuinely angry and hurt that 1. Amity said she loved her but had proposed to Boscha and that 2. Boscha wouldn't marry Amity.
Everyone stopped to look at Luz.
"That's what you choose to focus on?" Willow asked half complaining. As Boscha began to bawl louder.
Gus looked at Luz, then at Boscha, then back to Luz. "I believe the proper human phrase is : Luz simps for Amity."
Boscha looked at Gus perplexed, then blinked slowly before laughing.
"I do Not simp for Amity!" Luz exclaimed loudly.
Willow began giggling with Boscha, their laughter growing louder.
"I DONT!" Luz cried her voice a high pitched squeak.
Gus joined in, as Boscha and Willow began howling. Laughing hard at the obvious lie.
"Luz, your face is the same color as Boscha's hair." Willow said between breaths.
Luz glanced into Gus's mirror. Her face was a bright pink and she began to giggle at the sight. Soon all four children were laughing in sync. But eventually they calmed down enough to start asking questions. They formed a small circle and looked at Boscha expectedly.
"My parents want me to marry Amity, but I can't" Boscha said flatly, her eyes cast downwards.
"Why Not? You two were friends for years right?" Luz replied moving closer. Her dark eyes misty from tears and rage. The distance was shrinking.
Boscha said nothing, only shifting away from Luz.
"Why Not?" Luz pushed louder, wiggling closer to Boscha.
Boscha said nothing, she stood up and turned her back to the trio. Willow and Gus shared an uneasy glance.
Luz stood up and grabbed Boscha's shoulder spinning the taller girl around before grabbing her collar. Luz forced Boscha's face to her eye level. "Tell me why!" Luz pushed harder, her voice was louder close to a scream. Their faces almost touching. The distance gone.
"Because she doesn't love me you idiot!" Boscha screamed back, the words stayed in the air. "She doesn't love me." This time it was a whisper, the anger melted away. "I don't want to marry her if she doesn't love me back. I can't do that to her." Boscha's voice cracked with every word as she slowly collapsed onto the ground.
Luz stood above Boscha. Looking down at her once bully, Luz opened her mouth ready to say something more. But Willow placed a hand on her shoulder, snapping Luz from her anger. Luz turned and looked at her friends, unsure of what to do. Willow put a finger to her mouth, shushing Luz.
"She loves you, not me. I knew that from day one. She doesn't love me, Marrying me won't make her happy. She deserves to be happy!"
The words floated in the air. Gus held his breath, not wanting to get involved in whatever weird love triangle was going on.
"Her parents did something to her, I can't fix her. I can't save her, but you can!" The bitter words left Boscha's mouth.
Luz turned and looked at Boscha before extending her hand downwards.
"Then let's figure out how to save our girl."
