Potential Final Goodbyes

Ok so I went back and changed her last name to Daher because I realized I gave her a Scottish name even though she's not. I just chose a random name because I never planned a name for her and giving her a white name is just...ew. So yeah, her name is now Kyra Daher!

Summer slowly turned into cool, crisp autumn creating the perfect weather for training. August was suddenly September and it wasn't as hot and sweaty like usual.

I was at archery practice with Elly after being dragged here against my will. I'm the daughter of Nyx, of course I suck at archery! But no... Elly had to insist on me practicing so I can "get better."

"Come on, Kyra! It can't be that hard!" Elly exclaimed at my stubbornness of continuing to do this idiotic thing.

"Easy for you to say!" I replied gesturing at her past targets with arrows perfecting placed dead center in the middle. Her current target she put 5 arrows in it to make a smiley face. For whatever reason.

"Fine...maybe some food will get you in the spirit to practice some more!" She said enthusiastically acting like she genuinely thought it would make me less stubborn.

I slumped down at my table and tiredly took a bite of my apple looking sad for the first time while eating an apple. I swear hanging out with  Elly zaps all the mental energy I have for the day trying to keep up with her constant happy mood.

I looked over at Leo, sharing eye contact with him from across the pavilion. He shot me a confused, concerned look. I simply mouthed "Elly," and took another bite of my apple. He nodded casually, smiling at the thought Elly could tire me out this much.

Our silent conversation was interrupted by Chiron standing up with Rachel at his side, he cleared his throat making every camper shut up. They both looked uneasy and if they look like that then it only meant one thing: someone's about to die from a prophecy.

"There...has been another prophecy." Chiron stated dramatically, his announcement echoing throughout the camp. Is this a biannual thing now or what?

"Rachel?" He gestures to Rachel, giving me major deja-vu. Or would've given me deja-vu since I knew this is exactly what he said last time. All the campers looked absolutely done with the gods bullshit but what could we do about it?

Rachel closed her eyes nervously and began to recite her second prophecy this year.

Three friends will travel through the dark,
To find the crooked dove they will embark;

One will be sacrificed and fall from the earth,
Vegetation and the grape vine will prove their worth;

The remainders will not be able to go on,
And a feigned defeat will echo upon at dawn.

Silence moved through the camp as everyone processed the information. It didn't last long because not ten seconds and everyone was freaking out.

"Defeat? What does that mean?" Yeah Linda, wonder what that means.

"Vegetation? The grapevine? Does that mean one of the Demeter and Dionysus kids get to go?" I noticed they said 'get' and not "have to" like it's a cool field trip and not a deadly quest. Is no one going to point out it states one person might actually die? No? Ok that's cool.

I looked over at the bare Dionysus table to see Jace glancing uneasily at their anxious brother, concern for him in their eyes. I glanced over at the Demeter cabin, them  looking completely anxious. Demeter kids were known for being peaceful so being targeted for a deadly quest was not common for them. Miranda looked determined to take the hit for her sibling though, something I knew was hard.
