SUPPORT
In her five inch heels, pegged black pants and ruffled front blue-polka dot white shirt, she hopped out of his car. She was now seven months and her bump was completely visible. The baby was very active and the obstetrician had a difficulty time seeing the baby's sex in the last visit. Tor placed his hand on her back to assist her onto the stairs but she shifted away from him. He had been very touchy since he found out about her pregnancy and she scolded him about it everytime but he just laughed it off.
'' I've told you to stop touching me like that. It's inappropriate.''
'' I'm sorry. I just can't help myself. I'm just so proud and you're just so beautiful. I swear everytime you carry my child, you become more beautiful.''
'' Stop it!''
The problem was not that he was complimenting her but that she felt that all this was a lie. Not that he did not mean it but he was going home to someone else. What was the use of all of this when knowing he was not hers. She only agreed to him accompanying her to stop him nagging her.
'' I know you hate me-''
'' I don't hate you. Mad, hurt and heartbroken, yes but I don't hate you.''
'' I don't know how to show you how sorry I am for putting you through all of this and I really hope that one day you will find it in your heart to forgive me because I truly love you.''
She wanted to believe him but he had lied to her about so much. It was hard to decipher what was true and when he was buttering her up. The nurse called them into the consulting room where the doctor was already waiting on them. After exchanging pleasantries, he started on the consultation. Asking about her health and asking for any complaints.
'' I've got none.''
'' Okay, do you still want us to try check for the sex or ....?''
Amara turned to him and he said he wanted to know. The procedure started and it took him thirty minutes to get their answer.
'' You're having boy.''
'' Yes!''
Tor rejoiced.
'' You wanted another boy?''
She asked as he drove her back to her office.
'' Yes but I would still be happy if it was a girl. Just always wanted to have more sons than daughters.''
'' Now you'll have three.''
'' Huh?''
'' Akon, Tafari now him.''
She pointed to her belly wondering why he looked confused.
'' Oh yeah and I want to name him Akin.''
'' What does Akin mean?''
'' It means brave, I think in Yoruba.''
'' That's beautiful and what does Akon mean?''
'' I really don't know just named him after the rapper but those in the know say it is has Hawaiian and Arabic origin. It apparently means flower in Hawaii but we're not sure.''
Amara nodded, this was the most they talked without arguing since she found our he was married and it felt good.
'' Well I love Akin. It suits him perfectly and it will be a good first name. Akin. Mommy's brave little boy.''
She smiled rubbing her belly. He put his hand on her and caused the baby to kick frantically. This would be so perfect if it wasn't all a lie but she appreciated his support.
