"What the fuck are you doing?" I whispered angrily as I closed my bedroom door behind me. The boy looked up, taking his attention away from my bloody t-shirt.
"You must be A-Positive." he replied casually, flashing a set of fangs at me in a wide smile.
"I can assure you that whatever I'm thinking right now, it isn't positive." I retorted.
Immediately I pegged him as one of those weirdo kids who like to play dress-up and act like vampires. The kind that loves Tim Burton movies and Emo music. He probably had piercings in his sensitive areas too. He just seemed like the type to me. I felt my blood begin to boil up inside me as my hands shook.
Can you blame me?
There was a stranger in my bedroom, and I had no idea how he had got in, let alone why he had just tasted my blood.
Talk about a fucking psychopath...
I was about two seconds away from shouting out and alerting my parents to the presence of my strange vampire-wannabe intruder, but there was something deep in his eyes that stopped me.
"I meant your blood," the boy clarified, suddenly looking at me with concern. He put my t-shirt down on the bed next to him, trying to hide it. "A-Positive is your blood group, right?"
Had he just tasted my blood and told me what blood group I was?
Well, this morning just kept getting bloody weirder. On the plus side, my internal steam engine had simmered down slightly and the shaking had stopped with it.
"Who the hell are you? How did you get into my room? No. Wait. Why are you in my room at all?" I winced as I pointed. A surge of pain shot through my shoulder.
"Wow," the boy said, running a hand through his long blonde hair. "Lots of questions. Okay. Well, firstly my name is Kian Richards. I was the one who brought you home from the party last night. We came in through your window. I thought it best not to disturb anyone else in the house. I might have knocked your shoulder at some point on the claw marks. Sorry about that. They look like they've healed up pretty good now though," he added, eyeing up the scars left on my bare shoulder.
"Do you know what happened to me last night?" I asked him, torn between accepting his story and just believing that he was a psycho killer. I had never seen this boy before and was pretty sure he hadn't been at the party. He didn't even go to college with me. I was sure of that. I definitely would have remembered seeing someone like him around campus.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you the truth," Kian said, flicking some flyaway hair out of his eyes.
I frowned. Who the hell did he think he was?
"Try me." I said.
He stared at me, his off-putting red eyes boring into mine as if he was trying to see into my soul. I attempted to keep his gaze but eventually looked away.
"You were attacked last night while you were at the party," Kian said after a moment. "I tried to stop it, but I didn't quite manage to get to you in time. The wolf still managed to scratch you."
A wolf? Was he being serious?
"I was attacked... by a wolf?" I asked him confused. I was pretty sure that there were no wild wolves around Moonstone. There wasn't even a zoo that one could have escaped from.
"No, you were attacked by a werewolf."
"A werewolf? And what the hell are you supposed to be, a vampire?"
"Yes," he answered, his face staying completely serious. "I am a vampire."
"Are you fucking me around?" I asked him laughing. "You are, aren't you? This is just a joke. It has to be!"
The expression on Kian's face never wavered. "No," he said, "I am not fucking you around, Alec. You are a werewolf, and I am a vampire. Can you not smell it? Use your senses."
Okay, now I knew he was joking with me. Either that, or he was totally fucknuts and I was in real danger. Also, I was damn sure I hadn't mentioned my name at any point during our conversation... I had only just met the guy and I wasn't that desperate, or that bloody stupid.
"Fucknuts?" Kian asked smirking at me, "That's original."
How the hell?
"Did you just read my mind?" I asked, a shiver running up my spine as I considered the possibility that he might be telling me the truth.
Could it be true? No. Alec, you're being a stupid bloody ass! Of course, it's not true. Nobody has the ability to read minds. It's just not possible!
"Oh, it's true," Kian replied to my unspoken ranting, smiling and showing off his fangs again as he did, "I can read your mind. And yes - you are being a stupid bloody ass."
Damn, it was true...
As Kian smiled at me, his fangs caught a beam of light coming through the blinds. I wondered if he was still listening to my thoughts.
Note to self - refrain from thinking around Kian.
"Hang on," I said as I tried desperately to keep my mind clear, "If you really are a vampire, then how come you're out in daylight?" My eyes travelled to the window, where the sun was now streaming in, "Shouldn't you be hibernating in a coffin or something, in case you spontaneously burst into flames?"
Kian briefly turned his gaze to the window before looking back at me. "Well, that will have to be lesson number two," he said, an odd look darkening his face. "I have somewhere to be. Important meeting. Can't get out of it, sorry."
Kian then got off the bed and held out a hand to me. I took it. His hand felt cold, almost like there was no life left in it. If he were a vampire, then I supposed that there wouldn't be as technically he was dead. Damn. Just the thought started to give me a headache, and possibly nausea.
He was dead after all...
"An Important meeting?" I scoffed, "How is anything more important than the fact that I was attacked by a werewolf? Shouldn't you be out looking for whoever did this?"
"We have people working on that. I'll be back to see you tomorrow," Kian promised, "And, we'll continue going over everything you'll need to know. Oh, one piece of advice, just, try not to get angry or scared between now and then."
Try not to get angry, why the hell would he say that?
"Tomorrow?" I asked, "You can't just drop a bombshell like this on someone and expect them to deal with it on their own."
"I won't ever leave you to deal with it on your own, Alec," Kian replied smoothly, his eyes staring deep into mine. "Trust me."
He then smiled, walked over to the window, opened the blinds, and climbed up onto the frame to sit on the ledge facing me.
What the hell is he doing?
"Was that meant to sound threatening, or sexy?" I asked him, frowning to myself as I watched him adjust his precarious position.
"I guess I'll leave you to figure that one out for yourself," Kian replied, grinning at me once more.
Then, without any warning, he let go of the ledge and fell backwards out of my bedroom window.
