I turned round to see Victoria standing in the doorway, her arms crossed, as a large wooden cup floated in the air in front of her. She made her way into the room and I noticed her outfit had changed from what she had worn during our trip back in time.
She now sported a full black leotard, offset by bright, fluffy pink stripes going around her arms and legs.
How bloody long had I been out?
"So, how long have I been locked up in here?" I asked, trying my best not to sound too worried.
"Drink all of this." Victoria looked at her watch as she grabbed the floating cup and handed it to me. The wooden exterior was warm, and the light green liquid inside it smelled like pancakes. "You've been unconscious for two days, fifteen hours and twenty... five minutes," Victoria replied as she finally stopped looking at her watch.
Apparently, she had been timing me.
I choked on the drink as she spoke. It was the taste, colour, and texture of blended courgettes. I really fucking hated courgettes. They tasted like watery mush, and not in a good way.
The smell of pancakes was suddenly off-putting.
The main reason I choked was the sudden revelation that I had missed a whole two days. I was definitely in line for a massive shit storm when I got back home. My mum had probably already called the police to report me missing. Especially given how SPECTRE had destroyed my bedroom door. Yeah, I was never gonna hear the end of this. I'd probably end up grounded from now until I eventually move out to get a place of my own. That's to say, a long bloody time.
"Don't worry, I've spoken to your mum on the phone." Kian said, picking up on my thoughts. "Victoria was able to place an enchantment on her, she thinks you're staying with family in Scotland. Don't ask me where it come from, I just lifted it from her existing memories. We didn't want to mess her around too much."
I knew exactly who my mum had been thinking of - my grandparents from Aberdeen. My father's parents. We used to visit them every summer. It had been a family tradition. We hadn't been there in years, not since Dylan was born. Well, at least I was in the clear, at least in terms of my mum. The Council, however, was still a massive problem.
"Thank you."
It was hard to get my head around the fact that Victoria had so easily been able to put a spell on my mum, but I knew it was for the best. I didn't want her getting involved in my new life. I was not about to let any of my family get hurt because of me.
No fucking way.
"Please don't start getting sentimental, I might just throw up." Victoria joked as she took the empty cup from me.
As she took it the whole thing vanished from her hand. I had to blink to make sure I hadn't just imagined it.
"Anyway, there are things we need to catch up on." Victoria carried on, "A lot has happened while you were out of it."
Huh. That's one way of putting it. I get shot and end up in a coma while everybody else carries on without me. To be honest, it's not like I would have expected any different.
"Okay, so what did I miss?"
"Well, SPECTRE are still looking for all of us. We managed to properly identify the werewolf who attacked you. His name is Jonathan Cayhill. He's a pretty nasty piece of work, ran a werewolf revolution back in the '90s. A lot of people got killed before The Council eventually pulled together and stopped him. They banished him and his followers from Moonstone completely. It seems like he hasn't taken the hint very well."
