Pizza! Bloody Pizza!

We were shown to two bedrooms by a guard, whose polished silver armour reflected the blue flames on the walls, Kian and I decided to get some rest. The vampires might be creepy as hell, but they sure knew how to do luxury. The bed was a decent size double, fitted out in red and black velvet and linen sheets.

After a quick sleep and a freshen up in the room's en-suite bathroom I made my way back out into the tunnel where I found Kian, and the guard sent to escort us, waiting for me.

"Hungry?" Kian asked with a smile.

"Starving," I replied, suddenly finding I had an appetite for the first time since waking up to discover that I was now a werewolf. It seemed like days had passed since I caught Kian in my bedroom, even though it had only been a few hours.

"Lord Elliot has ordered in," the guard explained as he led us back to the main hall of the Church, "I do hope you like pizza."

Pizza...

My mouth salivated at the thought of food. It felt like forever since I had eaten anything.

We made our way back into the main hall of The Church. The throne sat in place at the foot of the huge armoured statue, but most of the room had been taken over by a series of about twenty small tables, each one seating four vampires dressed in long blue robes. Elliot was easy to spot amongst the sea of blue in his blood-red robes. He sat alone waiting for us to join him.

As we reached the table the guard who was escorting us removed his heavy silver helmet. Kian had explained that it was fashioned into the likeness of a growling leopard to scare any enemies during battle.

The vampire underneath had a shock of short hair that had been died green to match his eyes. It was a shock after seeing the other vampires, Kian included, who all had red eyes.

The guard bowed and then took a seat at the table next to Elliot, placing his helmet on the table in front of him. I followed his example and took one of the two remaining seats, but Kian stood still, looking at the armoured vampire with horror.

"I thought you were dead." Kian said as he eventually came to his senses and took the last seat.

The green-haired vampire smiled, showing off his fangs. It was the first physical sign I had seen of what he truly was.

"So did a lot of people," He replied to Kian's statement. "As it turns out, I am very much alive."

I really felt I was missing something important, but then another guard in a plain helmet brought over a large cardboard box full of pizza. My stomach growled and I immediately lent forward and took a slice. I was about to eat it when Elliot reached out a hand to stop me.

"I wouldn't eat that if I were you," he said, "A-Positive can be a little bit bitter on the palate when you first try it."

I looked down at the slice and suddenly decided that my renewed appetite was gone again.

Damn vampires! Why couldn't they eat something less disgusting to survive? A decent curry or even rice pudding! Anything but blood!

Kian still hadn't taken his eyes from the mysterious green-haired guard.

"I saw you die," he said finally. "I watched you take a stake in the heart. No vampire can survive that."

"Do you remember my brother, Jake?" the guard asked Kian. "He was slightly younger than me, but put him in a suit of armour and who could tell the difference between us?"

Shit. Was he saying what I thought he was?

"You swapped your armour with him and let him take your place." Kian said bitterly. "You sacrificed your brother's life, Jay, and where were you? Hiding down here away from the battle? You're just a bloody coward!"

"My brother begged me to let him fight," Jay replied his tone hardening at Kian's accusations, "He always wanted to be a Knight of the Church. The day that the Council broke our defences he asked me again. The war was almost at an end by then, you probably remember. I didn't think there was any danger of an attack, but then the call come through that the northern barrier had fallen. I was meant to be there that day. The head Guard at the time had allowed me to command the defence of that particular barrier, but I never got the chance. Yes, I let my brother go to his death, but trust me, if I hadn't been captured alongside the High Lord I would gladly have died with him, so don't you dare call me a coward when you led a fight that decimated your own people and left most of us for dead!"

I was shocked. Kian was white with anger, as was Jay, but Elliot just carried on eating his pizza as if nothing had happened.

"If you're not going to eat that slice, just put it back in the box," He said to me casually ignoring the tension between Kian and Jay, "It's just as good if you leave it in the fridge overnight."

What a fucking weirdo...

I put the slice I had picked up back in the box and wiped my hand on a napkin to get rid of the excess blood.

As the silence over the table had become almost unbearable a guard rushed up to Elliot and spoke into his ear. It was so quiet that, even with my enhanced hearing, all I could hear was a faint muttering. Elliot nodded and then sent the guard running back the way that he had come, several others joining him as he left the hall.

Elliot stood up, his robes billowing around him, "It seems some SPECTRE agents have got through the first part of our defences. We need to get you both out of here. Now."
