Back To The Future, Part Two?

Chaz decided to leave us to it. He insisted that the less he knew about what we planned to do, the better it would be for everyone. He already knew quite a lot, so I don't know how accurate his statement was.

As soon as the door shut behind our undead host Victoria got to work, pulling candles from her pocket and placing them in a circle on the rough navy carpet. The spellbook sat open in the centre. It was tight, but the four of us just about managed to fit inside comfortably.

"We're all going to need a sacrifice to be able to open the time portal. I'll go first," she said, pulling an acid green scrunchie from her pocket just as the spellbook roared open, green flames heeding for the ceiling. She threw the scrunchie into the fire, turning the flames yellow.

Kian went next, plucking out a few of his blonde, almost white hair. After they went into the flames it turned a blood red. Then it was Wesley's turn. He decided to burn a pair of sunglasses that he pulled out of his jacket pocket. The flames then turned back to green, although the colour was slightly lighter, almost like fresh-cut grass.

I went last, choosing to follow Kian's example by pulling out a few of my hairs. It hurt like hell and the little bastards didn't want to come out at first. Eventually, I had enough.

How the fuck had Kian done that?

Maybe being a vampire had lowered his sense of pain. That, or he was some sort of machine. Anyway, I threw my plucked hair into the fire and watched as the flames burned a bright blue.

Victoria then set about completing the spell. "I call upon Gestop the God of Time, protector of the past, maker of the future. Grant us access to your Kingdom, let us walk again the paths we have already traversed. Accept our offerings in place to allow us the keys to see what once was."

Then, as before, the fire burned a bright green before the flames from the book and the candles shot upwards closing us inside a burning cage.

The seconds ticked by and soon the fire burned down and were still sitting in the same room. Not much had changed, but the bowl of chips Wesley had left on the sofa was now gone.

"Right, if I've timed this correctly, we have twenty minutes to get to the forest and intercept Jonathan before he can go to the Council. If we see ourselves at any point, hide. If you see a SPECTRE agent, you hide. We cannot be seen this time. If we are the whole timeline could collapse making this entire mission a moot point."

I really didn't need reminding that this was our last chance to fix what had happened. I wanted to suggest going back further to stop Jonathan before he became an issue, but then I remembered the Doctor Who episode where The Doctor ends up stopping someone from killing Hitler before his time. It just wouldn't be possible. The timelines had to run their course, or the whole world could change dramatically.

We all jumped as movement coming from outside in the kitchen reminded us that Chaz was still around.

Of course, he was still here, but he couldn't know that we were.

"Stay inside the circle and hold hands," Victoria said quickly before starting to chant again. "Undi Homs Vwet Mar Gaerh... Undi Homs Vwet Mar Gaerh..."

I watched as the handle to the room slowly started to turn. Shit. This was too close. I carried on watching, unable to look away. Just as the door started to open the blackness surrounded us.

For once, I was glad that it had.

The pressure relieved and the world around us returned. We were back in the forest. Victoria immediately jumped up and looked around.

"We're in the right place," she said stopping and pointing behind me, "Jonathan should be coming this way in about ten minutes. We just need to catch him when he does."
