I stood still, the sword digging into my neck slightly as Jay held it and me tight to stop any chance of escape.
Kian, I really hope that you have a plan...
Kian stood, his eyes locked onto mine, the sharpened wooden stake in his hand. He stepped forwards and instinctively Jay pulled me back a step, the sharp edge of the sword grazing the soft skin of my throat. I felt the sting that meant that the sword had drawn blood.
"Are you really want to throw your friend's life away?" Jay asked Kian.
"No." Kian said stepping forwards again and raising the stake so the point was level with Jay's heart "But, then again, I wouldn't want to answer that question when I still have cards to play."
Jay held his position as Kian moved towards him, "You have nothing else up your sleeve, Kian," he snarled. "If you're stalling and hoping to be saved, I can tell you now that nobody will be coming to help you. Agents Southwood and Gibbs will have all of the clergy tied up by now. You have nowhere left to hide and nowhere to run to."
"You arranged for SPECTRE to get into the Church?" Kian asked him.
"Yes, after you both arrived and told that fool Elliot the werewolf here was wanted I saw my opportunity to avenge my brother's death." Jay admitted, "Unlike the other senior members of the clergy I'm on good terms with the Council, so, I left the door open for them shall we say."
As he spoke his grip on my arm eased slightly and the grip of the sword on my throat had eased as Jay's hand relaxed slightly as he spoke.
"You betrayed the Church," Kian said, stepping forwards so that he was only a step away from me and Jay.
"Oh, that's rich coming from you!" Jay spat, "The vampire who led the Council to destroy your own people and prevent a war! Are you seeing the similarities here?"
"No, all I'm seeing is a mad vampire who just murdered the High Lord." Kian replied. As he did Jay's sword arm dropped away from my throat, "A vampire who has let his guard down as well as his Church."
Alec, get ready to duck.
"What the fuck are you..."
Jay never got the opportunity to finish his sentence as I ducked down out of reach of the sword's blade while Kian sped forward and shoved the stake down through his collar bone. Jay fell to the floor unable to speak, thick black blood was frothing out of his mouth and running freely down his chin as he dropped the sword on the floor to land next to me.
"Are you okay?" Kian asked as I stood up from the floor.
"I'm fine." I replied as I wiped away the beads of blood from my throat, "But, what do we do now?"
Kian looked down at the struggling form of Jay, and the blackened skeleton of Elliot and I could see from the look on his face that he was torn. I felt sorry for him, but I had no idea what he was going through. All I could do was follow him and try to keep myself from getting killed, something that hadn't worked all that well so far.
"We need to get out of here," he replied looking at the handprint that Elliot had left on the door which was still just about visible. "The doorway is still open, but only just. We'll need to hurry."
Suddenly faint voices could be heard coming up the tunnel from the way back towards the main hall.
"Shit!" Kian cursed as he looked back.
"It could be the clergy." I said hopefully, "It's not necessarily SPECTRE, right?"
"Do you want to take that chance?" Kian asked, "Because we've not come this far to get caught now."
