After we arrived back at Chaz's, reappearing in the small back room we had left earlier, Victoria conjured up a large wheeled bed, kinda like the ones you get in hospitals.
I helped Wesley lift Jonathan up onto the bed as Kian refused to go anywhere near the dying werewolf. To tell truth, I didn't bloody blame him. If someone had tried to kill me twice I wouldn't think about even being in the same room as them.
"Strap him down, he'll be angry when he wakes up," Victoria said making thick metal chains appear on either side of the bed.
We tied Jonathan's hands and feet to the bed with the chains while Victoria pulled Jonathan's bloody and torn t-shirt up to reveal the wound.
The skin around it had turned black, tainted with poison from the silver bullet. Victoria had mentioned that our natural werewolf biology wouldn't allow wounds caused by silver to heal.
What if Jonathan didn't make it?
He was the only only evidence we had that proved I was innocent, it would just be my bloody luck if he ended up dying before we went to The Council.
Victoria went to work, first magically extracting the bullet, then healing what she could to make the wound less open and infected. While she worked I chose to sit on one of the comfy sofas next to Kian. Wesley left us to it, probably to go and hound Chaz for some food.
In my mind various scenarios played out, none of them good.
"Try not to worry." Kian said, placing his hand lightly on my leg.
"That's easier said than done, Kian." I retorted, "If he dies, I'm screwed."
"Vic managed to save you, right? Have a little faith."
I did have faith in Victoria, but Jonathan was in a far worse condition than I had been.
He'd better fucking make it...
"Okay, we just have to wait to see if he wakes up," Victoria said as she finally finished and pulled Jonathan's top down. "I've done all I can for him."
"Is he going to be okay?" I asked, trying not to sound too concerned.
"He's lost a lot of blood, and the poison was far more concentrated in his bloodstream. To be honest, Alec, I'm not sure."
So, all we could do was watch and wait? Fucking great.
I watched Kian for a few minutes. He was staying uncharacteristically quiet about the large, werewolf shaped, elephant in the room. I had to say something to him.
"Are you okay?" I asked
He kept his eyes fixed on the bed, and Jonathan. I knew he heard me, I just wasn't sure if he was going to answer my question.
"I'm fine," he eventually said. "I guess that I should be thanking you."
"What for?" I asked confused.
"For saving my life. You know as well as I do that Jonathan would have been quite happy to kill me either time we met him." Kian replied. "Trust me, dying once is quite enough."
"Anyone would have done the same," I replied. "You're my friend, and after everything you've done for me I should probably be the one thanking you."
"You'd be surprised. The last time I was in a similar position I was left to become a vampire," Kian replied. "Not many people are like you, Alec. This world is full of demons, and a whole lot of evil. Remember that."
He was right. There was so much about this new world that I didn't understand. After seeing what Jonathan was capable of, I could truly believe that it was full of darkness, but I had to believe there was light in it too.
I had to have faith.
"I'm the way I am because I choose to be. It's right, and also because I like you." I replied.
Kian raised an eyebrow at me. I felt suddenly got, and my stomach seemed to be doing cartwheels.
"You like me?" he asked.
I didn't know what to say. I hadn't exactly planned on saying anything to him, but now that I had, I would just have to go with it.
"That's what I just said. Yes. Don't make me repeat myself."
Kian smiled and put his arm around me. I suddenly felt whole.
"Do you mean that you 'like' me like me, you know, with heart eyes and stuff?"
"Heart eyes?"
"Yeah, like the emoji" Kian replied seriously.
"I did not think vampires would be into emoji's." I said, trying not to laugh.
"I'm over a hundred and fifty years older than you Alec. That's a lot of time to learn emoji's, and one hell of an age gap." Kian replied showing off his fangs.
Shit. I'm a stupid bloody idiot! Why did I have to say something? I should have just kept my mouth shut.
I saw Kian frown at me and I knew he was reading my mind. I tried to keep my thoughts clean, but images of Kian kept appearing.
Damn him, and his hotness!
"I know that, just forget I said anything, yeah?" I said, keen to change the subject.
Kian didn't get a chance to answer as Wesley came back holding a half eaten sandwich, followed closely by Chaz. Victoria, who had been dealing with Jonathan, also come over looking extremely happy with herself.
"He's going to be fine," she said, "He's stable now, although he's still pretty out of it."
Thank fuck for that.
I had been really starting to worry that my only chance to clear my name would die before we could use him. Maybe I was luckier than I gave myself credit for.
"I have to say well done to you all," Chaz added. "What you've achieved is a great feat."
We've got a bloody long way to go yet...
It was a win, but, the hardest part was still to come; facing The Council. Of course, on top of that, we also had to get Jonathan to confess to his crimes.
Easy, right?
"Hopefully The Council can be convinced of the truth. They are not known for mercy. They deal with facts. The best thing would be to get a full confession from Mr Cayhill," Chaz said.
"Yes, in an ideal world," Victoria replied, "That's exactly what we need. Our only problem will be getting it. I don't think Jonathan is going to be forthcoming, but we can try."
We had to try, but if I was in his situation, I sure as hell wouldn't be admitting to murder. No bloody way. I would deny everything. No comment.
Yeah, there was no chance Jonathan would ever confess.
"I agree, but, maybe we don't need him to confess," Wesley said, "We just need to prove that he's here."
I wasn't getting it.
"What the fuck are you on about, Wes?" Kian asked.
"I mean, The Council banished him, right? So, technically Jonathan shouldn't even be in Moonstone. If we take him to them they will be forced to act against him. We just need to prove he broke the conditions of his release. Then maybe they'll consider the idea he was the attacker."
"That's bloody genius!" I smiled. "Wesley you're a lifesaver."
The plan actually made a lot of sense, and it bypassed the main problem. A confession. We now just had to figure out how to get Jonathan to The Council without them arresting all of us before we get a chance to explain things.
But, at least we had a plan.
