GRIEF.

Psychologists say there are five stages to processing grief.

The first stage is denial. Klaus clearly skipped that and went straight to anger. He was angry that she was gone. Anyone could clearly see it by the way he ruthlessly ripped apart the victims of his bloodlust.

After that, came the bargaining stage. Klaus felt guilty for how he acted towards her. He regretted how he treated her horribly. He regretted not making sure she was safe. During the summer, he realized how much he needed her not just as an assistant but how grateful he was to have her as a friend.

Then came the depressive stage even though Klaus himself thought he was in the acceptance stage. Klaus began to hire new assistants to maybe try to replace her and move on, but that only made things worse. Klaus was frustrated by their incompetence. After days or if they were lucky weeks, Klaus would finally become so fed up that he'd kill them. Then, he'd hire a new one and repeat the cycle.

Klaus couldn't find a single werewolf the whole summer, but he knew if Emilia had been there he could've found at least one werewolf in less than a week.

Currently, Klaus was driving back to Chicago from his failed attempt at making a hybrid in the Smoky Mountains. He didn't want to have to come back to Chicago because it would just remind him of the friend he lost. However, he was determined to make a successful hybrid and only knew of one witch that could help him.

Before going to Gloria's bar, Klaus dropped off his coffins at the warehouse. He vividly remembered the day Emilia showed him this warehouse telling him that he'd need it one day. He unloaded his family's coffins placing them next to each other. He took Emilia's coffin out of the van and placed it into the warehouse. Her coffin lay near the same spot that she had killed Brad in self-defense before she left for Mystic Falls.

He had Emilia's coffin not to be weird, but because he wanted to be able to bury her in her hometown. It's sad because if she knew she'd tell him that she didn't want to be buried in a place with such bad memories. Nonetheless, she really didn't have any choice.

When Klaus went to the bar, Gloria inquired about where Emilia was. Klaus had to inform her that she was dead and that he was going to bury her before he left.

Gloria knew she had to complete the spell she started almost a year earlier. Gloria had figured out that Emilia was leaving with Klaus last summer and she couldn't just let Emilia die if something bad happened. She used a piece of Emilia's hair and a full moon in the sky to create a reincarnation spell. Nature put many restrictions on bringing her back, but the major ones were that it had to be done by someone of Gloria's line and it had to be around a full moon. Thus, when Klaus and Stefan left the bar she gathered her supplies and started chanting. After a minute or so, she stopped chanting and could feel that the spell had worked. Gloria was happy that she'd wake up soon.
