Girl next door.

It feels like it's been forever since I had a normal working day where I go to the office then head straight home after, without Luke whisking me away to some private movie theater or a private dinner party with the Minister of freakin State of Affairs.

He's out of the country for a few days and until he's back, I'm going to be eating my lunch at work and going straight home after knock off time.

Luke has really introduced me to a life I never knew before, an over the top luxurious life and let's just say I don't hate it. As long as he continues to take me on our occasional McDonald's dates.

Our relationship is still unknown at this point as he still introduces me as the girl he's known from back in the day but I don't mind. Who cares about labels when you're having so much fun? He knows how to properly treat a lady and I appreciate that.

As I drive down the high way this lovely morning to go to the office, I find myself reflecting on everything the past couple of months. I'd stopped calling Tristan eventually as he wasn't answering any of my calls and texts. He never bothered to call me or text me back even when I told him about Aunty Maggie's passing. That had been beyond heartbreaking, as he of all people knew my whole story with her. He must've known I'd beat myself up for not reaching out to her all those years but still didn't make any effort to check in or even send his condolences from afar.

Oddly though, that was in a way a confirmation that our friendship is no more. It was hurtful but it was also eye-opening. I wish him all the best in this life and the next but I will no longer make any active effort to reach out to him anymore. I've accepted our faith.

I enter my office building and head straight to the sweet Barista who so kindly starts working on my protein shake. "What are we having today?" I ask him after greeting him and have a seat on one of the stools by the counter. "Banana," he simply says and I feel my tummy spark just a bit in approval.

"Yum," I say back to him. Every day he experiments on my protein shakes as I'd told him once that I wanted to shake things up in my life. You know your life was a mess when even the barista is proud of you.

I take my yummy looking banana protein shake, thank him, pay, then make my way into the elevator.

I get on my office level soon after then head straight into my boss's office for our morning briefing.

"Nice of you to join us," is the first thing I hear when I close the door behind me after getting in. He doesn't even bother to look at me. Asshole.

Our morning briefings now include everyone else on our level. Mr Asshole did some readjustments and decided everyone needed to be present as they also needed to know what was happening with our active accounts. I thought it was a good idea. Mr Romano senior always looked down on the other employees and hardly felt the need to address them. That was why he didn't want them in the briefing.

But that only meant I was the only one who suffered from his bad attitudes and bad days while they didn't even have to see him.

"Sorry boss," I respond softly then join everyone in sitting as he briefs us.

I know he's a little crossed with me because I'm hardly at the office anymore but as I've told him before, and keep telling him - He must only address me when and only if my work starts going down hill. Yes I'm not there everyday - which I don't need to be, but I do my job to a satisfactory level. So much so that a majority of our clients prefer me to handle their accounts.

I'm over qualified for my position and that was why when HR brought me in, they'd adjusted my contract to be fitting for a CA, even though I wasn't really.

The only reason I used to come to work everyday was because I had no where else to go.

Our briefing ends a few moments later then he dismisses us but, "Not you Ms Oliphant, we need to talk about your lateness," he says and I ignore the oooh's my colleagues make on their way out.

The door is soon closed and I'm alone with him in the office.

He turns his back to me to pour some bourbon into two glasses then makes his was to me to give me one of them and I just look at him in hesitation before taking the glass.

"We won the McKenna account bid," he simply says and I put my bourbon glass on a nearby table to literally jump up and down.

An account bid is when various accounting firms fight over representing a company. It's usually some big company that's wanting proper representation so they ask accounting firms to submit their account profiles.

I'd had mad sleepless nights working on that profile, and he knows because, "What would we do without you Mia?" He asks now coming close to me.

He kisses me and I don't wrestle him because I'm in a really good mood right now. He carries me to put me on his desk as our kiss gets more deep and passionate.

"I wanna fucking eat you up so bad, you're so hot," he says sensually moving his lips from mine to my neck and I moan softly as I start unbuckling his pants but he stops me.

I stare at him in frustration and he just goes back to pick up his glass of bourbon and says, "I can't," softly. I can see his member still wants me like I want it but the asshole it's attached to won't let us be great.

"Why not?" I ask making my way to him. I bring my body closer to his and stand on my tip toes so I can reach his lips. I kiss them softly as he just stares at me, "Mia," he says my name so sensually and I wonder why he's fighting it.

"I'm seeing someone," he then says and I feel the disappointment shoot up my heart.
