I've never liked amusement parks.

Mostly because I don't have the greatest experiences with them, but also because I'm terrified of heights. When mom and I would go with my school back in the day, I'd always got on the smaller, less terrifying rides. That was only when I'd even agreed to get on the rides to start with. Mom would force me or bribe me with candy for that to happen. I'd usually preferred to go wherever she was going, to her utter dismay.

I never went back to the park after her death, for various reasons.

"I'm going to kill you," I say to the crazy man as we make our way through the giant gates of my least favorite place on the planet. He knows this because I told him, many times.

So when I stand tall with my hands folded in retaliation, he hardly looks surprised. He tricked me. He had me blindfolded and told me we were going on our best adventure yet, how could I have said no to that?

"Mia, please. We've already gotten this far." He says to me but I let it get in one ear and come out the other.

No thanks.

"Please!" He tries again but that doesn't change my mind. What instead changes my mind is the cutest puppy dog eyes I'd ever seen on anyone. I generally never fall for that but he made it seem like I would be doing him a really big favor by simply accompanying him. I sigh in defeat then let him take my hand to lead me to the counter where we get our tickets.

The queue is not very long and I'm thankful because that means there aren't that many people inside. I guess that's expected since it's a weekday, kids are at school.

I look around at the familiar place. It looks so different. It looks a lot bigger now and more modern, I'm guessing to accommodate today's generation of kids. When we were young, we didn't really need much. We certainly didn't need the touch screens on the small cars used for getting around the park.

I see a kid already playing games on it and I chuckle because what's the point of him being here then? I smile when I think of mom's expression if she was here right now.

"You ok?" Luke asks as he makes his way back to me after paying. "Yea," I say honestly. "This place just reminds me of my mother," I finish then let him take my hand again as we pass through another set of gates.

We're soon inside and the first thing he does is get us two cotton candies. I feel my inner kid jump and down at that. There are hardly stores left where you can get them, and I know he feels the excitement too because I see his lips almost reach his ears as the lady continues to let it stick around the stick.

He lets me have the blue one and then laughs when I practically grab it from his hands before he gives it to me. We then walk down the pathway eating our candy on a stick with no destination whatsoever. I forget all about my reservations before as I let him take my hand again.

We continue walking in silence taking it in before stopping at the giant wheel named the giant wheel. I'd never gotten on it as I was always too tiny and didn't reach the minimum height requirement.

Besides its crazy big size, it doesn't look harmful. Plus it moves really slow so I decide that it won't be bad.

The kind lady working there lets us finish our candy before we get on and she pushes the start button.

The first thing I feel is the cold - but not too cold wind blowing against my skin. I unconsciously move closer to him for warmth, but also for protection. He chuckles then lets me put my head on the crook of his neck as the wheel continues to turn slowly.

I feel my body tense when we start seeing the view of the park and I breathe to calm myself down but that doesn't seem to work so I close my eyes.

But despite my not seeing anything, I can feel my body react to the sudden change in my surrounding. I have a minor internal panic attack and Luke holds me tight to calm me down.

We're soon at the bottom and I thank the heavens but the stupid wheel decides to go on again.

Are you kidding me?

"Look at me," Luke says and I conform.

"Don't fight it. Welcome it," he says making it sound so easy but when we reach the top again, I seemingly freak out even more as I have my eyes open the whole time this time.

"Mia, you have to breathe. Don't hold your breath. Become one with the wind." He tries again.

The wheel then passes the stop point but this time I'm prepared for it to not stop. We're still at the bottom and I close my eyes and breathe.

I let whatever is in my head go. Any stress, pain, regret, reservation... I let it go. I let myself be present in the moment. In my physical experience and not my thoughtful one. It almost feels like I'm meditating.

I feel my body tell me we're at the top and I open my eyes slowly.

It's beautiful.

I don't only see the whole park but I see the city too. I feel like no one can see me but I can see them, like a bird.

I look down to see people walking around the park then I look to my side to see a look I've never seen on Luke before. He looks like when you see a rainbow for the first time.

He doesn't seem to notice me looking back at him and I smile.

I then close my eyes again to feel the wind against my skin as we reach the end of our ride.

It's soon over and all I say after is,

"Again."

We then go two more times before we start walking again to get on other rides. I feel like I can pretty much do anything and so he asks if I want to get on the rollercoaster and I shake my head yes.

The first time is a little scary and unusual as my body is not used to moving at that speed but the other times I welcome the adrenaline.

I feel what everyone seems to be feeling as I scream my lungs out in both terror and enjoyment.

We're soon tired of getting on the rides and Luke insists we go have something to eat and we do that.

I sigh when we have a seat at a restaurant inside the park.

I feel happy and complete.

We order and as we're sitting waiting for our food, Luke takes my hands into his and says, "Have I ever told you how incredible you are?" and I can't help but blush.

He never misses the chance to tell me that and more. We sit there for a bit just looking into each other's eyes. We both know what the other is thinking. He slowly brings his face closer to mine but stops when we hear a loud vibration.

I realize it's my phone so I take it out of my pocket and freeze when I look at the text he sent me.

'Nugget I need you now' it said.

That was enough for me to stop my whole life in order to make sure he was ok.
