"I think let's put those over there.
A little bit to the left.. a bit further.
No no! Just leave them, I'll do it myself!"
I could literally scream right now.
"Ms Oliphant, where do you want these?"
I can't help but cringe at that.
"Let's try to organize the tables and chairs first. Everything else will come after. And Mike... it's Mia. Please."
I absolutely hate formalities, any kind really. There's only one person I allow to call me by my last name, and that's only because he's stubborn and he'll do it just to get on my nerves.
"I heard you're being a bridezilla today, but of whatever this is." Says the man who was supposed to be here a million hours ago already.
"I told you it's an appreciation party." I don't know how many times I've explained this to him.
"That's not a thing."
Is today make Mia annoyed day? I swear to god, I will murder somebody.
"Tristan, there's so much to do and I have absolutely zero time to entertain your bs today. Why the hell are you so late? What took you so long? I asked for you one thing!"
This whole day must just go to the hell the way everyone has just been getting on my nerves. He doesn't say another word but instead gets to work, clearly seeing that I'm two minutes to snapping.
"Ok people! Let's move along. We don't have all day here!"
I say loud for the people in the back to hear too.
Grandma will arrive in a few hours time and there's still so much to be done. Guests are going to be arriving soon and everything has to be perfect. This is grandma we're talking about.
"Mia.."
What now?
I turn around to snap at my next victim but,
"Hey, it's just me calm down. I know you're stressing about this, but shouting and being mad at the world will only frustrate you and everyone here."
My face softens.
"Your grandma will appreciate this whether it's perfect or not."
Now I don't know about that.
"It's going to turn out great!" He says now looking into my eyes and I believe it. I believe that it'll turn out great simply because he said it.
"Thanks Tristan." I say to my handsome friend. He's wearing sweats and a plain white shirt. So simple yet, damn. Meghan is a lucky girl.
Relax, I'm over him. And that means I can acknowledge his good looks without feeling all sad and sappy about it.
I've been so hard on him the past few days while we prepared for today and he's honestly been trying his best to be there for me and make sure that everything comes out perfectly.
I'm usually not like this with literally anything. It's just that grandma Kwali is a hard person to impress. I certainly don't want to organize a big surprise party only to have her say, 'Oh. Lovely'.
It has happened before. Lovely to grandma means the opposite of that word.
She's a difficult person to deal with no doubt, but she's my only grandma. I've never thought I'd ever say this but I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world. She's not perfect and I've learned to accept her as she is.
