Ponyboy's POV
I was speechless. I was just going to ask her to go to the dance with me but i guess i'm too late. I walked away from them and went inside. You know what, if Y/n is going to the dance with him. I'm going to the dance with someone else. The last bell of the day rang and everyone shot out of the class.
"Hey Ponyboy"Y/n said. I ignored her.
"Are you okay?"she asked. I stayed quiet.
"Ponyboy You can tell me what's wrong. i won'-"
"Just leave me alone"i interrupted her. She stopped her tracks and i left ahead. Eventually Johnny and Y/n caught up with me but Y/n walked behind us and she was quiet. Once we got home Y/n sat her stuff down, me and Johnny sat down on the couch.
"I'll be back, I'm going to the dingo with Lucas"Y/n said to Two-bit
"Alright, be careful" Two-bit said. I got up to the phone and dialed Cherry's number
"Hello?"Cherry said
"Hey, it's me Ponyboy, meet me outside the dingo now"i said
Your POV
Once the bell rang i jumped out of my seat. Finally schools over. I looked around to find Johnny and Ponyboy. Once i spotted Ponyboy i ran up to him.
"Hey Ponyboy"i say. He didn't say anything
"Are you okay?"i asked. Still no answer.
"Ponyboy, you can tell me whats wrong, i won'-"
"Just leave me alone"he said I stopped and i decided to just leave him alone like he said. I thought that if i did it would pass. I saw Johnny and i walked along with him. We caught up with Ponyboy but i stayed behind i didn't want to bother him. He didn't seem annoyed by Johnny's presence, in fact he was talking with him. Did i do something wrong? Instead i cleared my mind and once we got to the Curtis house i told Two-bit i'd be going to the dingo with Lucas and he was kay with it. I began to walk to the dingo. I saw Lucas waiting outside for me. We both walked inside and ordered our drinks and started planning things out. There were many ways we could plan this but Lucas was either too shy or he thinks it's plain. I still wondered if Ponyboy were to like me would he go crazy just to ask me.
"Everybody listen" I heard a familiar voice say. I turned to see Ponyboy with Cherry. Everyone looked their way.
"Cherry Valance, would you like to go to the dance with me?"Pony asked her. My heart felt like it had been cut and burned up. Before she could answer I got up and left.
"Are you okay?"lucas asked as he followed behind me
"No, the person that I love just asked another girl to the dance."I said. I heard cheers from inside. I assume she said yes.
"He's not worth it" Lucas says hugging
"I just wanna go home"I pushed him away and started to run.
Ponyboy's POV
I saw Cherry waiting outside and I walked up to her.
"What's going on"she asked
"Just follow my lead"I say. We walked in and I got close enough and I saw Lucas and Y/n at a table.
"Everybody listen" I shouted to get everyone's attention. I look over to Y/n to see if I captivated her attention.
"Cherry Valance, would you like to go to the dance with me?"I asked her. Cherry looked over at Y/n. Y/n got up and started to walk away. Lucas went after her.
"Ponyboy, what's going on?" she whispered
"Everyone cheer,"I shouted. Everyone cheered. I pulled Cherry to a table and I began to explain to her what happened.
"Ponyboy, wouldn't it be alot easier if you'd talk to her?"she said
"Well yeah but some things always gotta interrupt me"i say
"Fine, i'll go with you to the dance but only as friends" she says. I look out the window and I see Y/n walking alone. I felt guilt crawl up my head.
"Talk to her," Cherry said as she got up to leave.
Your POV
As i walked up to the front of my house, i wasn't sure if i wanted to go in at all. Before going to the lot I went to the closets gas station to use a public phone so i can notify Two-bit. Two-bit didn't pick up so I called to the Curtis house. Sodapop picked up.
"Soda, if Two-bit asks where i am tell him i won't be coming home tonight and that I'm safe"i say
"You sure you don't want to crash in here?"he asks
"I just want to be alone for now"i say
"Alright, be careful, you are welcome here if you change your mind" he said
"Thanks"I said and called off. I started to walk to the lot. I saw Johnny sitting there. I went over and sat next to him.
"Why aren't ya home?"he asked
"My mom"i say
"Oh"he replies
"Johnny, you're a boy right?"i say
"Uh yeah, I sure look like one, don't I?"he asked
"No, i mean your boy so you understand boys better than i do" i say
"Well yeah"he said
"Do you think Ponyboy would ever like me more than just a friend?" I asked. I looked over at Johnny. He seemed a bit uncomfortable.
"Sorry, am i making you uncomfortable?"i asked
"No, no, it just seems odd that you care what he feels about you. Wait a second, Do you have a crush on Pony?"he asked. I nodded my head then he looked at me surprised.
"I knew you did, Why don't you tell him?"he asked
"Well because he likes Cherry"i said
"Cherry?, Why would you think that he likes Cherry?" he seemed shocked
"He just ask her to the school dance earlier today at the dingo in front of me" i say
"He did what?"he said
"What you just heard, I wanted him to ask me but I guess he never did want to go with me, I was wrong all along, Ponyboy just sees me as a friend,"I said. We stayed silent for a bit.
