"What?" Everyone except Emy asked in unison.
Christen crashed on the floor bursting into tears. Mike hugged him trying to console him. Seeing Leydah and Christen crying, Emy lost her self control. She sobbed loudly and let out her tears. Kate couldn't handle it too. After all Sera was a good and supportive friend to her. Tears escaped her eyes even though she wanted to stay strong.
As they went to the crime spot, Kate at once recognised that Sera was killed by a vampire. And she was so damn sure that the killer was Jacob Livingstone. She shared this information with Emy too. Emy didn't respond anything. She knew that it wasn't Jacob and was really worried about the fact that another vampire was lurking in the city, being a threat to the lives of innocent humans.
Sera's body was taken by the police. It was returned to her family in the evening after the completion of autopsy.
"We are still not sure of what actually happened. Blood was completely drained off her body. But all she had was a small wound and it's impossible for anyone to lose that much amount of blood from that small cut or holes in particular." The police man said to Christen.
Christen just nodded to everything the policeman said. He was so dazed. He wiped off the tears that rolled down his cheeks and thanked the policeman for the information.
James and Seth were with Emy and Kate. Emy leaned onto James's shoulder and he patted her back to comfort her. The dog squad was there and the dog was sniffing all around the area for clues to unlock the mystery. When it came near James it moved back in terror and ran away from him, surprising the policeman who held the dog.
"What's wrong?" asked Emy,seeing this.
"He knows I am inhuman. He must have got scared."James replied.
Kate too noticed this. She remembered what Sera and Leydah told her the other day.
"Does James know that Sera and Leydah saw him feeding on a person? Is he really a vampire? Is he the killer?" A chain of thoughts passed through Kate's mind and the last thought really frightened her.
The funeral arrived. Everyone who knew her were present at her funeral. Emy stood up to give her eulogy.
"I haven't prepared a proper eulogy. I just wanted to say things from my heart and I am pretty sure that my best friend, Sera would prefer it too." Emy began, trying to fight the tears that were ready to explode out of her eyes.
" Leydah, Sera and me were best friends since our middle school. Sera was a good companion with whom I could share every secrets. She was trustworthy. She was kind hearted and never complained about anyone or anything. She was happy with what she had. She taught me to be brave and happy when I went through my worst times. I still remember my sleepovers at her house and the pillow fights we had at late nights. We used to watch horror movies too. Although she was scared, she loved to watch them with me just to scare me. And now I feel like something has been taken from my heart. It feels empty." She wept uncontrollably.
" I hope she will rest in peace." Emy finished it.
During the burial of her casket, her parents, Christen, Leydah and Emy cried their hearts out.
"We will miss you a lot Sera!!!!"Emy bursted into tears.
James pulled her towards him and comforted her by patting her back.
James and Seth returned to their home after the funeral. Emy went back to her room since she had a terrible headache. Mike took Christen out so that he might feel better.
Kate and Leydah were alone. Silence embraced the atmosphere and Kate felt extremely exhausted. That's when she again remembered about what Leydah and Sera told her about James the other day.
"Leydah, do you think James saw the both of you when he fed on that man?" Kate asked her.
"No I don't. Why?" Leydah replied.
"I have a feeling that Sera's death is related to something paranormal." Kate said.
"What do you mean?" Leydah asked confused.
"What if James is not a human and he is the one behind the murder?" Suggested Kate.
"Oh my god! I never thought about that." Leydah exclaimed.
Kate sighed nodding her head back and forth.
"Kate, we must inform Emy about this." Leydah suggested.
"No. We must inform this to the police. Emy will never allow us to inform the police if she comes to know about this. After all, he is her boyfriend." Kate replied.
"Ok then, lets go for it." Leydah voiced with determination and revenge reverberating from her words.
Kate couldn't sleep that night. She turned and tossed in bed while Emy slept peacefully beside her. Emy was exhausted from all the mess that took place. Her headache was piercing her eyes and it was hard for her to open them. Kate kept rewinding about everything.
"Am I wrong? What if James is not the one behind all these?" If he is innocent, Emy and Seth will never forgive me." Kate thought
She was confused. She didn't know what she should do.
"If he was a cruel hearted killer, why did he save me the other day?" Her mind questioned her.
She peeped out of the window and gazed at the stars that surrounded the moon. The coolness of the night atmosphere and the noise of crickets calmed down her thoughts. She took a deep breath and released it. Her mind felt relieved. She glanced at an owl that stared at her. But as soon as it saw her glancing towards its side it cooed and flew away in fear. Her eyes traced the path it flew and saw it disappearing into the darkness. Suddenly, something caught her eyes. Someone was chasing after something. Kate stared at the person carefully to check out who he was. When he was out of the shade from the trees, the moonlight hit his face, revealing his true self.
"James?" Kate gasped.
